Not many 75's around, they had black fame, white guards, silver/red tank.. Plenty of 76's though.
And no they weren't much good.

Oh, ok.
What was considered a good 250 in 75 ? And what would of been the biggest seller is aus of that time.

Any of the Euro 250's were good in 75 and the Yamaha MX250b was probably the best Jap bike and very popular in Oz.
I must admit the 75 CR250M looks cool though..

If I could get my hands on a 75 cr 250 I would snap it up. they are a cool looking bike, they may not have been the choice of the riders back in 1975, who cares, I like the 75 model over the 76 model. In a nut shell (Buy it).

The only really difference between a 75 and 76 is the colours and the 75 had them wanky anti vibration brackets off the swing-arm

See link below

They are not pre 75 legal to race so no real difference in the bikes from a racing point of view. Actually this is where the pre 78 rules suck as you cannot change the shock pickup points so you are left with the measly 4.5 inches of travel they have on the rear!

Still a great looking bike (75 or 76)

This is the one I have (76)

Yes they are a great looking bike Shane.. The 76 also had different shocks, the 75 had same finned shocks as 74 but with 1mm thicker shafts and the 76 had all new red gas shocks.

Yep that's right John, still had the same length (shock) travel mind you.

Thanks I'll guess I will keep it for a bit then.

I think I need to ride it at least once to see what every one is on about then see if it stays or goes. Would rather have a early 1980's 250 with some suspension I think ( better for my knackered knees )

Thanks All again

PS: I tried to attach a pic but couldn't get it to work, what am i doing?

You have to load it to a host site like photo bucket, then attach that image. You can't put it straight on here.

They are a great looking bike and the power delivery is much better than the light switch '73 and '74 Elsinores. They also have a stronger gearbox by way of bigger dogs on the gears. It's a shame Honda chose not to increase suspension travel and beef up the forks because it would of made the bike more competitive.
There are aftermarket swing arms that move the lower shock point back towards the rear wheel so longer shocks can be used without stuffing up steering geometry. I had an original DG arm on a '76 CR that I had and it had 15.5" length shocks that gave a whopping 6" of travel  ;D
I still have a '76 CR250 waiting to be restored one day.....

TBM - the gearboxes were far from bullet proof though.  Many of the guys retro the 76 gearsetc back into the 73/74s to try and fix their problem but not as succssful as desired.  I broke a 76 box as well.

Yes they're basically the same gearboxes as the 74 but with some beefier gears and slightly improved dogs but they can still give trouble. I put the 76 internals in my 74 also..

None of the 70's era bikes had bullet proof gearboxes gents. I was just saying the '76 CR gear sets were (are) stronger than the '74 CR gears. I also had the '76 gears in my '74 Elsinore. I raced the bike for 2 years without any drama other than drowning it near on every time it went through some water. Took me ages to finally work out a suitable seal for the air filter.....
