Title: Maico ID.
Post by: 09.0 on January 09, 2014, 08:02:26 am
So what the hell have I got? To give you a hint, its mid to late eighties but I can't match the numbers to anything.
Engine B1031E
Frame B1031.
They seem like the prefix before the number. No numbers after that though. The guy that stamped the numbers may have been sick that day  ::)

Geoff Chant bought a heep of Maygo's in in the early 2000's and flogged them all off when he went back to the UK in about 2004.....HE was the guy that bought Kev's RJW alloy Framed CR500 in, I did have a list of the bikes and frame numbers and there was some weird shit in there....I know one of the 490's was raced by Neil Hudson. Some of the bikes had been restamped.

It's a RWJ (not rjw).  Why not just asked Geoff?

I think it should look like this. This is tagged as an 89 model. They were probably the same from 86.

I'm getting very confused. I'm looking at images I googled. I went from 85 to 89. They are all over the shop. It looks like mine has to be about '88? I wonder when they got upside down forks? Also when did they go from red to blue?

Okay. I sent Paul a message through facebook. If it's not one of his and it's one of his Dad's, he might put it in the too hard basket.
The sidecovers also seem to be more 88. The 85 have the slots that look like the 84 Honda.  86 the same but in blue?

Well there you go. I have an 89 according to Paul stacker. It was modified at the factory to his specs, being air cooled and with a red tank and early style pipe.

Brad, I had a 89 Blue 320Enduro and it had WP Suspension front and rear  and Grimeca brakes. May have some Radiator shrouds for it.

Thanks Dave. I will grab what ever you have. I really need a set of sidecovers, the left one especially. If you happen to find one of those it would be great!

Bradman, i remember back in 86' at the A4DE at Erica Vic Mitch Shearer had a blue Maico and the final MX was a slick grass track with clay undernearth, the Maico was extremely tractable compared to other bikes. so possibly 85 was red and 86 went blue.

The 4 day at Erica was 87
'Slick' is an understatement for the final MX
I didn't bother doing the practice lap as so many before me couldn't complete 1 lap in the allotted ten minutes in time to be back for the start
