Title: KLX250 Front Brake Upgrade
Post by: grouty on January 09, 2014, 02:04:08 am
Is there another front wheel that fits the KLX250 (79-82). It does not matter what I try, the thing is pretty useless. I have put up with it for many years, but I feel I need to do something different. I do not want to go down the disc brake route, or fit different forks. I would like it to look as stock as possible.
Would the front wheel / backplate assembly from a KDX420 / KDX450 fit ? I know the bearings etc will be different. The main issue would be the width of the hub / backplate compared to the KLX one. If it is too wide to fit between the fork legs, it will be a non-starter.

Has anyone done similar ?

To try and add some additional information....

l think the klx250 and the kdx175 share a front end, the front brakes are the same by part number.

The front brakes are the same on the kdx250 B2, the 420 and the 450 and the 3 models look like they share the same front end.

My 250 is the 1983 to 85 model which changed the fork/brake backing plate relationship from the earlier models so l cant check that fit for you but if you could swap a larger brake onto the 175 from a different model l think a few people might have done that  :)....... Has anyone done that ?

Cheers

Geoff

I used a set of wheels off of a KDX 400, they have bigger brakes, bigger spokes and are DID rims so all round are better, they're magnesium too! Also they bolt right on

Thanks Paul. I will search for a KDX400/420 front wheel. I have found a couple, but they are in the U.S. for silly money, and the shipping is expensive too.
