Title: DT 360 kick back
Post by: ty4 on January 01, 2014, 07:40:48 pm
has nice blue spark but kicks back  even  when slowley kicking thru....even tried to fully retard the timing but zero change

all contacts are clean and the magnets in the flywheel are where they are supposed to be...could it be the trigger/pulse coil ?
the last time i started it ( 12 months ago) it ran fine...frustrating

cheers

tony

Hasn't sheared the flywheel key Tony? Timing could be anywhere if the flywheels slipped on the crank.

Tony I think you will need the flywheel weight to run properly .

Check the pulser.  Had bad kick back on my 360a pulser was out.  Check out rexs speed shop has some good info on them.

Just noticing in the last 12 months a lot of people having trouble with kickback which they did do but fit up a DT 400 electronic ignition on any 250/360 that has points and all is solved no more sore feet or calf muscle ;D.It is such an easy fit up cheers

sorry, might be a dumb question, but i have no idea of all that electric stuff... which one will fit, ignition from type 512, or dt 400 mx? can i do that on my dt-1 E and my rt-2, too? what exactly do i need? thanks a lot.

some other Yammie stuff will bolt straight in and others may need a bit of physical "tweaking" to get them to bolt in...
i know for a fact that the DT400 CDI set~up is a straight bolt in (stator plate/flywheel)
the early (74' 75' 76') YZ stuff should bolt straight in as well but they are internal rotor types and may
result in a loss of bottom end power as the flywheels are much lighter...
I'm not sure about IT ignitions...
my RT1 uses a YZ490 system but needed some surgery in the lathe to make it all happen, {only because i had it laying around}
hope this helps...

The DT400 and MX400 and YZ400 cdi systems up till and including 1978 will fit the DT1, DT2 and DT3's also the RT 1 , 2 and 3's  . as well as fitting the DT360's bolt up no messing about on all of them . Iain

thanks a lot guys. i assume when talkin about dt 400 you mean the type 512, 6 volt,  not the first cantilever model which was called dt 400 MX over here in germany?

The cantlever model will also fit and more than likely be the better option ;)
