What are the best pre 70 forks?
Or options ?

I have 35 mm Betors on my Mk3 Bultaco. Modified the damper rods and fitted some YSS valves. I reckon they work pretty good.

Depends on your skill level , even old DT1 forks with a clean up and new oil and springs can be good . Iain

In a nutshell Maico probably makes the best legal pre 70 forks but because of their leading axle design they aren't automatically adaptable to every bike. The best traditional forks are arguably Ceriani's but Betor and CZ are pretty close. In fact, Ceriani, Betor and CZ are so close to identical that some parts are interchangeable...or interchangeable with a little modification. Of course, with modern cartridge emulator technology any fork can be made to work comparatively well. I've got 34mm Yamaha forks with Race-tek gold valves and purpose made springs that work a treat as do the Cerianis on my Cheney with their YSS PD valves. The notoriously awful Kawaski Hattah forks can even be made to work with emulators.

Graeme, this is the bike that needs to be replicated. It's the very Cheney Suzuki that Pederson bought and shipped to Japan for the factory to study. The bike was built by Eric Cheney for Suzuki Great Britain using the mechanicals from the RH68 Hamamatsu had sent them for Tommy Leadbitter to ride. Tommy found the Suzuki frame unrideable but the engine great so the bike below was created to keep Tom happy. After Ole Pederson took it to Japan it became the blueprint for Joels RH70 World Title winner. Apparently the frame geometry of the Joel Robert RH70 is a spit copy of the Cheney.
