This started about 12 months ago when I found out my girlfriend was pregnant with our first child. We wanted to do something special to celebrate and it was decided to restore a PW for her to have for her first Christmas.
This bike had been sitting under my mates bench in pieces since the early eighties, a deal was done. From memory the last time I saw the bike some 15 years ago, I thought I was buying an H model but after pulling it out from under the bench finding all the parts checking the frame number it looks like it may be a US PW50K????
Engine received a rebuilt crank, cylinder bored and all new bearings throughout, all other parts were either painted, plated or replaced. Tank and rear guard were sanded and polished
It fired 3 kick after around 25 years sitting under a bench,
Only thing left to do is maybe reduce the stroke on the oil pump a little as it appears to be blowing quite a bit of smoke set at the factory spec.

My daughter is only 5 months old now so in about 3.5 years she will be ready to take it for a ride.

Great story and a great gesture......She'll love it and you for giving it to her, especially when she's old enough to understand the yarn behind it. ;D ;D 8)

Hope your daughter is different to mine, her great great grandfather rode bikes, her great grand father rode bikes, her grand father still rides bikes at 76 and still is involved in classic road race, both uncles ride bike's, one races VMX with me, her mother use to ride bike until the kids came along still has a license to ride, her father has ridden bike since he could walk, still trail rides, road rides, trys to race VMX, her younger brother rides bikes, she wont even sit on one, doesn't even like being in the yard while Ive got one running so I hope you have better luck than me, cheers Andrew PS nice work on the PW50

I spotted one of those yella PW50's at a mates shed years ago, offered to buy it but got the usual...nah, it's for the kids...well, they are all grown up now so I should probably pay him a visit....they must have bought in yellow ones around that era as well as white ones...they look great in yellow....I hate the "blue" poo that Yammies are...thank god they offer white YZeds as an option. Cool story mate.....my eldest started on a pee wee 50 24 years ago......the youngest got a Honda QR50 10 years later (a mate owned Shogun Honda at the time).

Is the smoke from a poped seal after sitting so long? Hope not

Thanks for the comments and kind words, it was a project I really enjoyed doing.
I can't wait until she is old enough and she realises it is hers! I too hope she wants to ride bikes but if she doesn't I guess I end up with a cool workshop ornament.
I was only five or six when the PW was released in Australia and I can only remember them being white. But my mate who I got it off was an apprentice at a Yamaha dealer in this era and he reckons they were released in Yellow too?
I'm pretty sure its not a crank seal causing the smoke, I fitted new seals when I built the engine. When I first started it and whilst I was bleeding the oil pump and setting the stroke I was running the bike on 50.1 premix and it was running very clean.
