Title: KX500B1 replacement carb?
Post by: VMXSteve on December 18, 2013, 03:45:22 pm
I have a 1985 KX500B1 with an old original Mikuni VM40 carb that I would like to replace / upgrade due to jetting issues.   Jets / Needles are almost impossible to get and I have had great success with the JD Jetting Red needle on my RM250K8.

I can get a new Keihen PWK 38 Airstriker carb with JD Jetting needles etc from the States, but are unsure if it's a straight bolt on solution?   Or do I need air box adapters etc....

Anyone tried this on a KX500?

Thanks Steve

FWIW, I put an old round slide Mikuni into a 95 YZ250 (that originally had a 38PWK).
Can't recall how good the fit was (stretched boots, etc) but it definitely went in without the need for adaptor rings, etc.

You could try a Mikuni TM38-86 Flat slide that should bolt straight on.  Jetting would be as stock on the 84 KX500.
