Reminds me of the Maico 490 i bought at the start of this year.
Owner says its set up for a tall rider ??
Get it home and go over the bike and find out that the shocks were off a KTM125.

They're not the std shocks, they're too long and the reservoir hose is to short and running behind the frame instead of outside it.

Is it Pre 78 or Evo, with the floating rear brake?
Title: Re: RM 125B ex VMX Mag issue 15
Post by: Ted on December 13, 2013, 11:01:52 pm
It also has a 1978 C rear brake backing plate. Wouldn't imagine it would get thru scrutineering for Pre 78

Ted I thought you were getting carried away picking holes it in,
Just selling a bike I bought minus some parts I stole for a few thousand less than I paid for it about 10 years ago
I didnt build it , actually I don't even like it which is why I am selling it, blue rims have no place on any 70's VMXer
I have a few other stock B's that we are going to build up for my sons to ride
and they will look like they should,
and go like they shouldn't/didn't.

I'm not picking holes in it at all.

If you think it is fine to advertise a Pre 78 ( which a 125 B is) bike that clearly isn't then you are mistaken. Some may even call it misleading

The RM was built by HEAVEN founder Mark Cotterill and originally had the ex Gaston Rahier works swingarm that I supplied and piggyback bodied Works shocks. It was a pretty trick looking, if a tad overdone bike in its day. I'm not entering into another Suzuki legality war, I'm just stating what I know about the bike ::).

99% of that motorcycle is pre 78
Probably more Pre 78 than yours, C model arms,  late model shocks or Gold Valves etc etc
Nowhere does it say its ready to race pre 78
And since I have a few other Bs laying around I can put it back to pre 78 should that be required,
I just want to sell a few bikes I don't love to make some room.
And as stated I got that bike just to get the Rahier arm which is pre 78.

It just needs the std backing plate arm bolted to the swingarm then no problem, the brackets are all there..

How do you figure it is more Pre 78 than mine.

If you think mine didn't have the fine tooth comb dragged all over it at the Nats you are delusional. 100% Pre 78 legal.

You are correct, nowhere did you state it was Pre 78 race ready. As you also didn't state that you would make it Pre 78 legal in your description. You just said its a B featured in a magazine. I would think a newcomer to the sport would assume it being a B it would be fine to rock up and race it in Pre 78.

Like John said, put the correct backing plate on it and bolt the brake stay to the swingarm. Then say you have a B for sale.

Or better still put one of your claimed optional alloy arms on it , some correct length shocks, the right backing plate, bolt the brake stay to the arm and watch it walk right out the door for 75% of your EBay starting price.

 100% Pre 78 legal.

Since there was only half a dozen of those Optional B Arms in the country ( and only for sponsored riders and they were half the price of a new bike and the US ones where less than $200 and the AU$ =US$ was 1.09 our way) all the others where on the first shipment of C's which I had one of the brand new ones on the day they released them, my bike does not have modern shocks or gold valves, so other than a brake plate/stay this bike is pre 78 like I advertised not MISLEADING,
It was built before there was a pre 78 class and I have made it more pre 78 compliant by taking the C model wheel out of it and lacing the rim to the B hub, As to it only being worth $3,000 well I will keep it at that.
No doubt your bike is pre 78 legal, you proved that,

but I am sure there is more post 77 parts on your bike than this except maybe those blue rims
anyway its been fun winding you up since you chimed in on this thread,
ps should you want to see the 10 or 15 Suzuki alloy arms that I have saved for things like my Torsten Hallman Racing Aberg Replica SP/DR 370/400 or my GMC HS001 or my RN370 or the sons B's drive to Newcastle and you can have a look.

Well as my arm was purchased from the states by John Orchard, the former owner, we can safely assume it was not one of the 6 sponsored Aussie  riders arm or even in the first shipment of C arms to Australia. Sold new by Japan to USA, used in USA, sold by USA to John. Care to put a date on its origin or eligibility now?

I knew that! John had posted that long ago,
Ted you deserved this windup since you dropped in on my for sale thread even hinting that I was Misleading
Then questioning my ownership of the Suzuki arms.
Somewhere along the way you are probably pissed because I let the cat out of the bag on the OPTIONAL B ARM V THE C ARM

Not pissed off at all

Your description of the optional arm differences is as misleading as your B sale. I found it amusing  Then you recommend to paint it black to mask the difference

Anybody that follows that advice is going to be pissed off come trophy time

If that's letting the cat out of the bag I would steer clear of the RSPCA

I'll give you the last word as I promised to drop the arm saga forever
