Gents - sorry - what ended up being the outcome re the requirement to have a rear chain guard fitted to our bikes - pre 75?
thanks

FOR 2013 VMX/CDT WERE NOT NEEDED RE MOMS
2014????????????
after talking to a few road races they tell me it is mainly for the flaggies that pick you and your bike up after you fall they dont get there fingers caught up in the chain and sprockets

thanks Jim - could not find the old thread and could not remember where it finished.

Again this is a case of someone not reading the rule correctly. No modern MX bikes has a rear chain guard fitted, but they do have a chain guide that does limit the chance of fingers etc going into the rear sprocket. I believe this was why the exception for CMX/DT was made. Older bikes don't have this.
So now any older bikes that haven't got a chain guard close to the sprocket like most bikes from about 1980 on, will need to get one.
That is just my opinion.

so it is back on the agenda again.
ta guys

looks like there on for 2014

The Commission minutes say Board for approval etc. It may not be approved.
If I get time I will go back through the Board minutes.

2013 MOMs made no mention of rear chain guards for classic bikes
-
Yes it did.
GCR 12.8.8.6. Page 96.
In the 2012 MOMS the words "Other than CMX/CDT" were not there. The new proposed change is to take that out again.
Please note that rule is referring to the rear wheel (not front sprocket)
What this rule is referring too is basically a chain guide. Take a look at page 101
