Title: Twin leading shoe on TS or TM
Post by: ninjamk on December 11, 2013, 11:09:40 am
Does anyone know if there are any twin leading shoe brake drums that will fit in a TS or TM250 hub?  I am looking at a T500 drum and going by the pics they look like a close match, but I don't want to buy one and find out it doesn't work.

Thanks!

Early TS250 and GT185 shared a double lead shoe hub

Heres the one I used to own...

That's exactly what I was looking for.  So to confirm, the GT185 brake plate should work with 72 TS250 hub?

Thanks again

I think 69-71 or 72 whenever Suzuki stopped using the steel fork lowers, I wouldn't think a full hub would be hard to find.

Thanks cyclegod, I currently have forks with the steel lowers, they look exactly the same as the 69-70.  part numbers on the hub are different but I am going to take a chance anyway.  Worse case, I end up getting a new hub.

Thanks

I'm doing up a 69 TS250 for dirt track duties (pre 78 250 class at my local track).  To keep the weight down, I've replaced the steel forks with '77 TS250 forks and the steel rim for the al hoop.  But I kept the twin leader brake by 'adapting' and wiring in the original and the later TS spokes.  Saved about six kg as a result.  The brake works quite well, but may replace the shoes with more modern ones for even better bite.

Also replace the rear wheel with an early 70's MX wheel/brake setup - another six kg saved.

Its got an early TM top end, carb and aftermarket chamber for a few extra horsies.  Still got original shocks (with damping!), seat and tank.  And is still a heavy beast.  But looks pretty cool.
