$25 to get in :-[ to rich for me…….

Good day although $25 entry fairly exy. Darcy Ward had a couple of get offs before hooking into the groove and going quick. In the legends Crumpie struggled while McCoy and Gall got quicker, but Gall didn't make the last legends race. Personally very impressed with young Andrew McLeish from Proserpine. Lapped all but 2nd and 3rd in the motorad 10 lap feature. Good to see those Whitsunday boys fly! Great to see so many " big names" giving back in the grass roots. Excellent!

Yes, it was a great night.....some of the riders where getting some good air time over the jump....Deacon was going well.
-
Wow, sounds like a great event, would love to have been there. Hope to see some videos/photos turn up on the 'net.
This isn't meant to have a go at anyone but I'm genuinely curious why a $25 admission fee is too steep? I think that's probably way less than most entertainment around these days. Most of us would happily spend thousands a year on our bikes and racing - heck if I could say grab an air filter for $25 I'd reckon 'bargain'! Why is a great day out watching top riders doing the business not worth $25?
-
Correct
I was going to promote a Speedway meeting last night for the 90th Anniversary of Speedway,
Which is today btw
tickets would have been $30
Keith Davies and I would have put about 200 hours into it
I would still lose $5,000
Then on Monday I would have got a phone call telling me how good the meeting was but $20 is too expensive for Pensioners
This year I just could not be bothered, saved the old guy $20.20
The 20 cents he doesn't have to spend on Monday telling me his thoughts.
Anyway TTs are great meetings and I hope Howdy was rewarded for his efforts.

$25 too see 5 world champions and other legends

$25 doesn't sound all that much as a stand alone but took the wife, the 2 sons and one of their girlfriends (all over 18 but none earning $ , one uni and 2 elite athletes) so that was $125 at the gate. Spending today at the Queensland Swimming Champs $6 entry. Over 20 Olympians , current World Champions. Economies of scale I suppose. Yesterday cost me about $200 all up which I can put towards projects. Have already bought my tickets for the Troy Baylis Classic, fuel, accom from Brisbane probable outlay about $500. At the swimming I sit in an air conditioned venue with 3-4 food outlets/coffee cafés. Last night hauled everything up the hill as parking is limited, was at the first corner, no PA available and enjoyed the mossies with the long grass.
Don't get me wrong I love the bikes but I get annoyed with the " what do you want for your $" comments. Spectating at sports events is a "buyers" market. Am 56 years old and honestly most MX/ DT and speedways are only able to offer the same basic setup as it was in the 70s. In fact if you look at the old Brooklyn Speedway and Granite Park in Seymour they had more to offer the spectator. I appreciate all the efforts Promoters like yourself "SON" put in and I go because it's the sport I love, but I wonder how many Gen Xs will support throughout their lifetime.
Thought I'd post a bit of a harmless info about how the riders went last night as a bit of an update as to how they are travelling before the Classic. Don't like posting here too much as someone seems to want to jump on you for one reason or another. Learnt the lesson I just keep my thoughts to myself

Rosco in the legends final Gally and Crumpy battled for 6th, it was Chris Vermuelen that didn't race after crashing out in an earlier race.
Luke Gouff won the final from Caslick and Bayliss..

Ta Johnny, I was opposite the jump and the only place I could clearly see them however it was nearly pitch black where they were landing just looked like silhouettes. They had tried to light it but the unit for safety reasons needed to be back quite away.

At first I was thinking, $25 for such and event 8), but when you put it that way. I see your plite and generosity.
I can't help thinking of that quote of Mr Burns in the Little Lissa's recycling episode, I'll keep it short and sweet. Family, religion, friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed.

$25 entry may be a little steep but it was a great day/night racing with the Legends and current Pro's.
We stopped at a bar on the way home and I quickly tore through $50 and it wasn't near as exciting as the bike racing..!
-
Took my 10 yr old son Samuel to the event, we had a great time , he loved it, he had a friend Adam Robson race in the 85cc 11-16 event and he did really well, and to see so many World and Australian Champs at one event was fantastic, the racing was about as hot as it gets in my view, for the amount of racing you get to see for your $25 good deal IMO. Next time might even ride myself, looks like fun..

That's only because you went to the bar with XXXX on the sign instead of the one with XXX on it.
What is it with Qlders and spelling ;D ;D ;D

spoke to gally he was struggling early on. said he had not riden deco for 30 years
i politely told his mechanic he had the wrong rear tyre (speedway)
and rear suspension too hard
neat race out ran 2nd
how thrilled was i to provide race setup advice to a legend and gentleman

If everything works out as we hope Gally will be riding my Shell Yamaha 750 at a few events in 2014. You're correct, he's indeed a nice bloke.

I told Gally 2 weeks ago at Taree to use a 18" trials rear at north brisbane cos 19" speedway rear is useless.. But he tried the cheap option as he already had an old speedway tire
-
Why didn't he use a 19" Vee Rubber Trials?
-
Cos he didn't have one.. He ended up borrowing a used 18" trials from Bayliss

Rosco as I said I wasn't having a go at you, it was a genuine question because two people posted that it was a bit exxy. I just wondered why you thought that.
To some extent I sympathise re the difference in amenities etc, but the truth is that motorcycle racing, especially dirt track, is not a mainstream sort. To host any sort of decent event will always mean less than world class amenities and higher entry fees by comparison to the more mainstream sports.
My point was just that on a value for dollar basis for those of us that love our racing, $25 doesn't seem excessive. Maybe a family discount might be a good idea but I guess at the end of the day the spectator has to decide what's worth it or not.
Surprised that Gally wouldn't have done the research to work out the best tyre. A quick glance at everyone else's wheels would have told him what the go is you'd reckon. Look forward to seeing how he goes at Taree!

Had a few newcomers around where I was and the $25 was a topic of conversation . It's probably a case of a reddy is easier to dish out. If you are in the know the Legends is fantastic. However to the less initiated they look at things through different eyes. My son gave away dirt track at 14 and even living in our household really only knew Gall and Crumpy with a touch of knowledge of McCoy, Bayliss and Vermullen. He is 22 now. They didn't mind it but probably wouldn't front back, they thought it a bit expensive. Contrast to the Queensland Swimming Championships at Chandler. Heats this morning 9.00am till 3.00pm. Easy parking, comfortable facility. Magnussen, Sprenger, Seebom, Campbell sisters, McEvoy, Schlanger, and many others, current Olympians and a couple of present World Champions. Back to the finals tonight for another $6.00. And presently swimming is a whole world of hurt financially.
Not having a go at anyone just passing comment. I would imagine we would all like to see MX, DT and Speedway for many years to come. Spectators are part of that, but it will need to be competitive or it will become marginalised. Other parts of this forum are stating that our better economic days may be behind us. Our sport will need to position itself well if it is to survive/ prosper.

It was a great meeting, one of the best I have been to for a while,
What would you pay to see an old rock band full of legends,
plus some modern guns like Darcy Ward, he would be the most exciting rider on dirt that you could watch race any where in the world at the moment!
As for swimming, some may like it, but if it didnt have commentary, for me it wouldnt be anything.
