I've been thinking this for some time, but the last thread about what Dave does with his bikes has nailed it for me.
There seems to be a lot of folks on here that take great pleasure from passing judgement on others and what they do, which only adds to the overall negative vibe of the place.
This used to be a great forum, but threads like this last one seem to be the norm rather than the exception these days.
Sad.
I'm going riding...... ;D

Yeah Tony it is becoming a bit negative and as the instigator of the (now deleted) Keeper thread I must plead guilty of a bit of that particular patch of negativity. Seeing both of his bikes on eBay less than a week after I received an email telling me of his plans to race the bike at next years Nats with a hired gun on board was one too many Jaffas in the bowl unfortunately. I guess my frustration at seeing Dave continually do this topped by the personal email got under my skin. I've said it before but I truly believe that Dave does these posts as a bit of a wind up and actually enjoys the notoriety. If he didn't enjoy it why for fluck sake would he put himself through the continuous ridicule by posting yet his never ending string of keepers? With the exception of my concerns about the introduction of the pre 95 class into VMX and the resulting (and expected) firestorm from Nathan, that thread has offered up some positive ideas and interesting discussion. I've made a concerted effort to contribute in a positive way to this forum and reckon I'm living up to that. While I can understand your annoyance at the negativity towards Dave and other situations Tony, I reckon that 90% of the content on here is both positive and entertaining. In any form of public communication there is always going to be argument, heated discussion and even some mixed messages as the ;"Missing Bultaco Parts" saga recently displayed. We're not always going to get on like the Brady Bunch, that's the way open society works.
We all enjoy your own contributions to the forum Tony so please reconsider your holiday plans mate.

Too my defence, I do buy on a whim at times, I did buy the Dt2mx with the intention of restoring it, the cost of buying new parts for the bike and my patience was running low I decided to shelve
the idea, I truly have lost interest in restoring bikes. Then the Maico came along, thinking this would be the perfect bike for the pre 70 class, and my friend Tony.C asked me if I would have a bike for him to race next years titles. But in the back ground of all these discussions I was looking for another british bike as well, and nothing was around. So I asked Tony if he would be happy riding the maico and he was. Just last week I was talking to another friend of mine and he told me he was selling his British bike, so the wheels started to turn, I then rang tony to see which bike he would prefer to ride, and the british won over the Maico and that is why the Maico and the DT2 are for sale to help pay for the British bike. and I know that Tony would feel much more comfortable racing a 4 stroke, this year at the titles it went pair shape for Tony, So I hope that I can improve on his disappointment.
My little Hodaka will be raced next year, even though its to good to ride. and my son will be racing my pre 78 bike too, Mark could leave my son out of all this please, it has nothing to do with him.
I do make the mistake of calling these bikes I buy keepers, and I live with that, and handle the sack remark from it all, but leave my son out of your comments please. I am not asking silly prices
for my bikes, and I am happy for someone else to have them , and enjoy the way they see fit. I will go to great lengths to make sure that Tony has the right bike that will suit his riding style on the day as I O that to him, Tony did a big favour for me and help my son Nathan which gave him opportunity and has set up for life in the work force, and I will not forget that. cheers Dave

i Agree with Tony T about the state of the forum, it has gone down hill from days past. i won't be going on a sabbatical but probably won't log in as often either.
the way i see it Dave, the bikes are yours and you can do what you like with them as that's your choice and i think others can keep their opinions to themselves because that's all it is........................ THEIR OPINION !
no one has the right to dictate what you do or anyone else for that matter.
reading back though this make me realise that the forum content is getting to me as well.

I didn't mention your son Dave. I meant Nathan Senior, an easy mistake to make considering the thread.

Dave has the right to buy and sell when he wants (regardless if they are keepers or not!). The truth is that he has probably found alot of bikes that may have been in hiding in barns for a long time and ultimately been put back on the market! We should be stoked by that. I'm waiting for him to find an Astro Keeper!
Dave is one of the great VMX pickers (hope I'm not offending you by the way) and obviously has had alot of experience across most vmx makes and models. We should embrace that - keep up the good work :)

Thank you for pointing that out Mark, This forum needs to get back to bases, its a great forum to help people find parts information, whether they use it or not thats up to them, members of this forum should help their mates and each other to find bikes, if they are asked, you should be helping me find that next person to buy a bike or my bikes so they can be parts of this sport of ours. Cemotobull, I do know a fellow that has a Genuine Bultaco Astro in mint condition here in Victoria, these bikes are not for me, sorry.

Exactly Dave. As much as I'd enjoy your company on the track one day, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have my beloved B50 that's in my shed. It is the pride of my fleet 8)

Well TBM, That is the greatest news I have had today thank you for sharing that with me. They are a lovely bike to ride.

If I want to be completely honest, the 'sense of negativity' comes as much from me as the rest of the forum.
I could have chosen to ignore all that stuff, but I didn't. :-[
There is still lots of good stuff on here. e.g. Mitch75's last thread! Excellent!! :D
So after a little more thought, it seems I might need to clean out the cobwebs too. 8)
Maybe it also struck a chord. I've bought and sold lots of bikes over the past few years for lots of different reasons, but mainly because I get excited about owning some interesting bit of kit, but then I'm reminded that my chances of getting to ride it are slim, so I pass it on to someone who will.
And I honestly really enjoy giving new life to some old piece of crap as much as riding these days too.
I'm not going away, (sorry ;) ) just taking leave to reassess my priorities so I can enjoy the forum more and stop whinging about other people whinging....... ;D ;D ;D

Good idea Mr T, hopefully we will see you at next years Nats at Port Augusta. You South Aussie guy's are a great bunch of blokes that have huge distances between yourselves and yet you punch way above your weight. Maybe a trip or 2 to sunny QLD next year might bring back the "mojo"......there's always a spare bed and breakfast for you all and a beer or 2 or 3 and I do have 1 more bottle of "Moorgeist" schnapps I have been hiding from senor Firko that needs polishing off!!! 8). Have a great Christmas and I know everyone is going to have a great 2014.....bring it on.

There's lots of positivity on here mate. Like any where on the WWWworld, you just have to ignore some of the crap that gets slung around.
I too have bought, restored and sold a lot of bikes over the last few years. Most were meant to be "keepers" ;D ;D ;D but like you, I realised I would never be able to ride all of them, or afford to maintain them if I did, so they went to new homes for someone else to enjoy. Did I make money... HELL NO :o
But like you said, I really enjoy rebuilding some poor bike that was ridden into the ground and given a new lease on life. And I enjoy riding the bikes that I do keep.

Tony dont go , the world is a negative place atm so obviously that will be reflected on here as in all walks of life . As far as Dave goes like Firko says he obviously enjoys taking the piss .
Dave you can do what you want thats your perogative ;) Your Forum ettiquite sucks though ::) Why do you insist on removing threads that many pepole have contributed to when you decide your bored with a particular bike ::)
Has it ever occured to you that a positive of your wheeling and dealing is that on this forum a lot of technical knowledge is shared and parts / services contacts shared in your keeper threads .
Of course all is lost when you then decide to delete the thread ::) at best its bad form and at worst its forking selfish >:(
Personally i couldn't give a flying fork what you buy sell or aquire by other means or weather you ever front at another event , thats your call.
But mate show some respect to those who help out with advise in your threads and leave them in the system .
Think of it like this , when you start a thread its like planting a tree in a park , your thread being the tree and this forum being the Park .
You have planted the tree then other forum members come along and add comments just like they are watering the tree . The world via this site then gets to enjoy the tree and everyones a winner .
The wind changes and Dave decides to rip the tree out by the roots ( not just trim it or cut it down , no ole Dave rips it out by the roots leaving no visable trace ).
People who have watered the tree and people who have just enjoyed the tree come back to the park to enjoy the tree and low and behold gone without a trace >:(
Like i say Dave do want you want , but if your gonna use this forum show a little respect ;)

Amen, thanks for the advise, I have never thought of it that why TM Bill. I will consider it. Cheers.

Because the annoyance caused when you delete threads has never been pointed out to you before?
-
Goodbye, I am over all this, you can point the finger to some other poor bastard and treat him like shit as you have done to me.
-
Dave, I hope when you say "goodbye" you only mean for today. Cause i and many others are not bagging you. Its so easy to see one negative comment among three positive ones and dwell on the negative. I do believe that most of the bikes which go through your possession come out the other side as better bikes...

Brett, I think that I done some good for the sport over the years which helps make up the grid, it doesn't do me any good regarding my pocket, but thats my problem, I do feel like leaving this forum
I will walk away from it for a while I think.

Well........... that went well............ ::)
Sorry folks, will lock this one. It's going to go pear-shaped. Again!
