What ignition do you run in your KX250 A5? I can pick up an NOS stock setup (expensive) or should I go with a PVL? Something else?

I run stock on my A5's, only because that is what they came with. I've heard there is something better & cheaper than PVL, now I just have to remember what it is :-/

runtronic http://www.westonuk.co.uk/westonuk2_073.htm look at them

I use the std ignition on my A5, I wouldn't bother with a PVL I put one on my 490 maico and had nothing but trouble so I put a motoplat back on. PVL's are over rated compared to Jap cdi's.
Those Electrex ignitions from the UK may be a better option but if it was mine I'd put an original KX ignition on it.

Any ignition will do the job what you have to have is the right amount of advance which all depends on the curve pre-set into the CDI. Standard CDI's are a compromise between off the pipe and peak performance , backed off a bit for safety. A Hitachi ignition of a YZ work very well and have a good curve installed.

I guess I'm happy with my stock A5 ignition, the 250 has holeshot 'Open Evo' races so it can't be too bad?

Stock is OK with me it is just that the rebuilt motor is ignitionless at the moment and I am free to go any direction. I guess I could also take the working ignition off the current motor (it does run).

........but can it be improved? Old High Voltage CDI's have been eclipsed by DC/DC ignitions providing greater power to the plug, run richer mixtures and get more mid range.

HPI may be another option,
I run standard set up on my A5 250 which has worked well for many years

HPI work well
