I tried to get my reply to the tread started by Jim about the parts his mate thinks should have been his but it was locked before that happened, I think I sould at least be given the chance to defend myself.
When you get to my age the 3 things you rely on most are your family, your friends and your reputation and this thead has done more damage to mine than you can imagine and for no other reason than one buyer thinks that some of the contents of the other buyers lot should have been in his.
This is what happened. A mate of mine was down at the Bultaco Rally a couple of weeks ago and while talking to Jims mate about a gear for the kick start on a bike he purchased. My mate knowing that I purchased a bike off the same seller made a innocent remark that mine came with some 6 speed gears on hearing this Jims mate became aggitated. On the following friday night I received a call from Jims mate asking if I had in fact received any of the 6 speed gears, I told him that there had been some there mixed in with my motor and gearbox parts and that they apparently came from a Bully 125cc and that after my bike was assembled I had no use for them so I put them on ebay. After hearing this he said they should have been in my lot and hung up in my ear.
There were 2 (part) gearboxes in with my parts not enough to make one complete box, both had damaged gears (certainly no NOS parts) a few other gears of unknown origin a home made tool for removing clutches and a couple of other bibs and bobs. There were no spark plugs, pistons or kick start gears in with my lot.
After I got off the phone I rang the seller and told him what had just happened and he told me that he had recieved a call earlier from the buyer of the blue bike (Jims mate) who was agitated and asked if there had been a kick start gear in the stuff that had been picked up, he told him that if there was it would be with the 6 speed stuff. I asked him if any of the parts he had given to me should have gone to the buyer of the blue bike? He told me that he had removed the kickstart from it and used to clutch start it he also told me he had sold the blue bike with a few yamaha bits because he might have use for them but the balance of the parts went with my bike. He said he didn't check all of the contents of the boxes he just put the blue bikes stuff with it and the balance with mine. He also told me that if there was anything that Jims mate thought should have gone to him then that was probably his fault but he had sold the blue bike as a bike only, not a bike with a collection of parts.
I rang him again tonight to tell him about this witch hunt and he asked me to get the person involved (jim) and or someone who carries a bit of respect on this forum maybe (Firko) to give him a ring and he would tell them what happened and hopefully put an end to this crap. After looking at the posts on the thread I find it interesting and quite distressing to see how quickly people are to judge someone else specially when they have only heard one side of the story.
I think we all should take a step back and look at all of the facts before we decide to ruin a mans reputation. Hopefully Jim and or Firko will contact the seller and report back to the forum. A small thing to ask I would think. I can PM his phone number to you but I doubt this will happen most of you people are only interested in telling us all how upset you are that this type of thing could happen BUT NOT INTERESTED IN THE TRUTH.

An apolgy from me Zane like most people I commented on the story presented

And that's reason I refused to disclose your name. I was told of the situation a couple of times leading up to Jims post and trusting both people as non bullshitters I accepted their word as to what had gone down. Having met and liked you Zane I was surprised and somewhat disappointed that your name was mentioned. I now see that perhaps I should have checked with John for the full story before posting an opinion. I received a number of PM's asking me for the culprits name but as I wrote " I don't think it's Jims, mine or anyone else's right to out the guy. We're not privy to what's going on between them", and I meant it. Let me be the first to apologise Zane, it's a lesson to us all that publicly 'outing' people without first hand knowledge of the situation just isn't right.
-
Excellent, now we're getting there, Good on you Zane for putting your side forward, we have not met but you are showing some class by standing up and "outing" yourself as the accused party in this, now, if as you ask, Firko or some other well credentialed party on here would speak with the seller and then sort this out everyone can rest a little easier.
again, well done on speaking up, facts are always best and its looking more like a big mis-understanding, come on Firko do the due diligence for the sake of all 3 parties, PLEASE?

Zane and I have communicated off the forum and I've told him that I'll ring the guy to get the right story tomorrow and, as Zane's asked me to do, report back with the findings. He's pretty upset by all of this as you'd expect so I feel the least I can do is to help sort this out for him. Perhaps the many that PM'd me for the name can now understand why I refused.

Zane, you also get an apology from me.My comment was based on the original post to the forum.Your version of the event differs greatly to what was stated.I wish that you'd said something earlier regarding this situation and that it all gets sorted quickly.

Hmmm. bad situation all round, i read the thread as it unfolded and chose not to comment on it for good reason.
you blokes all go off half cocked on high moral ground when you don't know the full story. it happens all the time on here. if it's not your business resist the temptation and stay out off it. i met you at last CD Zane and i feel you have been badly treated here for no good reason. Good to see a few have apologised hopefully in time they all will.
-
yes zane I apologis for what I was thinking
-
My apologies Zane , i didn't know who any of the parties involved were and my post was based on the original post .
I think all who voiced an opinion would do well to take on board Hoonys wise words .
Again i am sorry for commenting on somthing that A had nothing to do with me and B i didn't know all the facts .
Lesson learned.
-
I'm with Hoony on this one. I also read the thread and to be perfectly honest, the original post made zero sense to me. Hence the reason I made no comment. There is always 2 sides to story and having been on the receiving end on false innuendo myself, I know not to get involved in other peoples problems. It can only lead to trouble.
Good on ya Zane for defending yourself. I don't know you but at least I know you have the courage of your conviction.....

This is one of those classic cock ups where the real story gets lost in the details......This morning at the request of Zane I rang Charlie, the bloke who sold the Bultaco bikes and parts to both John and Zane. He related a story that is almost word for word the same as what Zane has written in his opening post. According to Charlie the confusion started with him putting the package containing the 6 speed Bultaco trans gears and other bits in the wrong side of the ute. Apparently Zane's bike and parts were on one side of the ute and Johns on the other and Charlie unfortunately placed the parts meant for John in with Zane's parts and all was forgotten. Cut to later, Zane's delivered Johns bike and parts and all is forgotten until months later when John needed an Astro kickstarter which was supposed to be in his parts stash from Charlie but couldn't be found. He called Charlie who told him it was in with the 6 speed transmission stuff which John knew nothing about. In the meantime Zane has sorted out the parts he'd purchased from Charlie and not needing the 6 speed 125 trans parts sold them on eBay. I believe that John was pretty pissed off about the situation, causing him to tell a number of people the story that prompted Jims post.
Here's how I see the situation from an outsiders perspective. I believe Charlie's placing of the parts in the wrong part of the ute was the first innocent mistake, the second cock up was with Charlie not clearly informing both buyers which specific parts were to go to which specific person, causing the eventual confusion. This caused John to not know that the parts even existed until he started looking for the Astro kick starter which led to the phonecall to Charlie enquiring as to why he didn't get it. If more care had been taken in working out just what parts were going to which person by all three of those involved, none of this shitfight would have occurred. John was pretty pissed off and in the heat of that anger he told a number of people that he'd been ripped off which prompted Jim to go in to bat for his mate with the original 'rip off' post that prompted the following frenzy. From all of this I've concluded that Zane is totally innocent of any dishonesty whatsoever , John is only guilty of possibly over reacting without understanding the full story and Charlie is innocent of anything dodgy, his only misdemeanour is placing the parts in the wrong stash and not bothering to mention their existence to either John or Zane.
This drama is a classic example of how we can let our emotions take over and accuse people of wrongdoing before we know the full story. I feel bloody awful that I had a part in flaming Zane by reporting that I knew who the alleged culprit was. I'm so glad however that I resisted the many calls for me to 'out' the alleged perpetrator by naming him, mostly because a part of me refused to believe that Zane would have done such a thing. I'm in no way a mate of Zane's but I've dealt with him over a Triumph engine and found him to be a bloody nice bloke and as honest as they come. As I write this Zane's extremely upset that this drama has put a big dent in his credibility within the VMX movement so I call on everyone to let Zane know that the mud hasn't stuck and that we still regard him as a respected member of this forum and the VMX community in general.
Now.......lets move on and remember that we all live in glass houses that can be ruined by just on stone.

Excellent work Firko, getting both sides, in this case all 3, is always the best way forward on any reported underhanded dealings, I HATE this sort of shit, FACTS are the only thing that matters and it shows what a minor cock up can turn into, well done for sorting it.
And good on YOU ZANE for standing up, I havnt met you but I DO understand how important our reputations are.

thanks for clearing it all up firko I think all 3 have a hand in it all
john is still pissed about it as the gearboxes were for a road racer(johns bike is a road racer)in time he will get over it but at being over 70 it will be a while.

I am a mostly member on this forum so you blokes don't know me, however I have known Zane for over 50 years and he's been a close personal friend for over 25 years. I've watched this "incident" develop first hand over the last few weeks. I can confirm as an eye witness that Zane did everything above board and with the best of intentions of helping out a "mate". There are a few men in this world who I consider honest beyond reproach and who always try to do the best by other people and Zane is up there with the best of them.
It was disappointing to say the least to see him treated so shabbily.
I trust the bloke with my life!
-
That should read mostly silent.
-
I'd like to see a few more of those who were crying for blood come on here and make amends. The poor bugger at least deserves that.
-
I'd just like to say i know Zane and he is a bloody champion he would do anything to help you out and has helped me out many times , this whole witch hunt is rubbish and a misunderstanding and i'm glad it's been cleared up . I hope to see you at the Heaven events this year again camping with us Zane .

What do you consider "crying for blood" Mark?
-
How about one from the person who started all this muck raking?
I was the one who identified these gear boxes when Zane brought me a box of assorted engine parts and asked if I could assemble and get running for him.(this was a month after John had picked up his bike)
FACT. These were NOT special road race gearboxes. They were MK9 Pursang 125 gearboxes in varying condition, mostly stuffed. So highly sought after that they sold on ebay for about $50.
John is pissed because he cant find a kickstart gear for his bike and somehow thats Zanes fault.
This whole matter of ruining a persons reputation and trial by forum is a bloody disgrace.
-
I'm with ya Zane....fuk em mate. See ya at Heaven buddy
Come down to camp squalor...usually where Hardman is... My fridge is ALWAYS open
-
"Vote for Zane" t-shirts now available ;D
I'm new and don't know anyone that was/is involved in this…..but this trial by hearsay is the vain of the forum world, Peace dudes.
Look what i just bought……

What do you consider "crying for blood" Mark?
Everybody, including myself who jumped straight in calling for the alleged thief's head without us knowing the full (or correct) story. And the large number who PM'd me asking for his name despite my saying I wasn't going to release it. Now I know what really happened and after talking to all involved I'm so glad I stuck to my hunch that something wasn't right. I feel pretty bad for what Zane's gone through and I really hope we've all learned a lesson. I'm having a proper a mea culpa day today. I even regret going in so hard on Dave's latest keeper sale so I must be turning soft in my old age :-[.
I'm just tired of the bad ju ju, it sucks all the life out of us.
-
You know ... I had a brilliant day today. Took my young fella and his mate out riding today. He rode his kx65 for the first time and I taught his mate to ride our xr80. The smile on my face was only exceeded by the smiles on theirs. Just brilliant.
Probably one of the best days I've had riding for many years.
And then I log on to read more of this shit. I think I need to reprioritise how I spend my time.
I'm going to join the self-imposed holiday group.
-
What's the problem Simo? What did I say that's so bad? How hard is it to admit that the poor bloke copped a rough deal? I don't get it.
-
Get over men,
you guys know Zane better than me, shit i only spoke to him on the phone for maybe 10 mins about his Husky resto some time back, struck me as a nice sort of helpful type, a few called for the facts, some jumped the gun a little, a LITTLE in view of what is generally just human behaviour, it shows we all care about our little world, thats a good trait in my view, it would be a LOT different if Zane was named as a less than savoury type (he WAS NOT) in the first instance and now it turns out is just a mis-understanding. Lots of sales between "mates" are just verbal, no one seems to feel as though they can question the detail, or ask for detailed descriptions from their "mates", its just life, we SHOULD all still stay passionate about our vmx world, we should get fired up about reported mis-dealings between mates, BUT, we should all make sure we make a judgement only on the FACTS however long they are in coming I dare say that if Zane was named in the first instance most would NOT have believed it.
Zane, i'd reckon you reputation is still in tact mate, again, big balls to speak up and name your self as the ALLEGED guilty party, and that before the thing is sorted, well done.
Now, can we all go back about our Christmas business?

Now, can we all go back about our Christmas business?
The way the current vibe is, I think I might enjoy Christmas a bit better away from here..............Have a wonderful Christmas everyone. (and I truly mean that, I'm not being sarcastic)
-
yeah had enough will look back in next year and see if forum is in a good vibe state
-
yeah had enough
Yeah Mikey, I'm feeling a bit jaded too and its coming out in much of what I do both on and off here so I reckon I'll just stay clear of controversy and restrict myself to posting the occasional entry in areas that I'm interested in. It must be the piss poor alignment of the planets or something but there seems to be a lot of negativity on here, some of which I'm to blame. The B40 thread still interests me so I'll keep with that and hope like all fluck something else comes along to reboot my interest. I've survived Nimmo and other naysayers of doom in the past so I'll come back refreshed I'm sure.
-
What about Ji Firko? J
-
Oh yeah, I forgot him, but it was a joint effort there, he buggered it for himself :D. I've just been told in a PM that I'm a bully so If my accuser is correct I've out lived my time on here so maybe it's time to have a rest for a while.
-
That's good then. It will give you some time to draft up that shit we were talking about the other day. Now that's positive ;D
Cheers

There's a bloke at work who despite my best efforts to accommodate his personality just shits me. In order to avoid conflict apart from basic civility I choose not to speak to him. My wife who knows about these thing says that's bullying by exclusion. It troubles me that she possible is correct but why should I waste my time and goodwill on this prick when previous attempts have failed. J
-
Depends on how you go about it, Jerry. If you simply avoid the bloke, and are civil to bim when you can't, then it's probably fine.
It becomes bullying by exclusion if you do stuff like publicly inviting everyone else to a BBQ, but "forgetting" him...
-
Funny you should quote the BBQ thing Nathan. We had our work Xmas do on Sat. He was invited and said he would be there so his and his wife's dinner were paid for out of social club funds and guess what,he didn't front, no phone call no nothing. J
-
Still sounds like a good outcome for you...
-
Bloody hell !!
-
True. J
-
If there are things to be learnt from this they are.
1. If you are the seller document what you are giving people when they pick them up.
2. If you are picking something up for yourself and maybe someone else document what you have picked up and maybe even sign for it.
3. If someone is picking something up for you make sure what you will be getting and check what you do get.
4. Don't lay blame or accuse without all the facts. Remember if you assume you make an ass of you and me.
Kevin
PS I make mistakes too

Bloody hell !!
Exactly !!

I don't get on here much, it doesn't matter which club or forum club you belong to there's always ppl you don't like, I used to belong to DBW that site is full of ares holes, & there's a few in AMTRA as well, the reason I don't get on here much is because I like bikes & I'm interested in reading about them, & things other like minded ppl have to say about them, from past experience I've found that it's too easy to be misunderstood, on forum sites & then the shit starts, it's a shame that there's ppl out there that is willing to have a go on there keyboard but haven't the guts to say things to ya face, I used to think that all motorcycle ppl are good ppl, sadly not nowadays, I've been involved in motorcycle for 45 years.....How times have changed.

You hit the nail on the head. It is way to easy to be misunderstood on the internet. And people are very courageous when they're not in sight. AMTRA has some of the biggest dickheads on it's trailrides... I only ever did one and that was enough for me. They had to stop every 15 minutes for a chat....
I used to think that all motorcycle are good people too. Running a motorcycle transport business soon put that illusion out of my mind with all the lies and crap that I had to put with. In the end I gave up on giving a shit about my business and started putting people in their place when they gave me some bullshit story or abuse. Shame really, because I really enjoyed what I did and took pride in looking after someones new/old pride n joy. I just wasn't prepared to end up in prison or a psych ward because of some R sole. Yep, times have changed. Everyone is MORE important than the next person....

I only ever say it as I see it and if I get shot down for that, so be it. At least I know I am true to myself and good for my word. I don't think anyone here will shoot us down mate. There are mostly good people here and our moderator, Grahame (sorry if i spelt that wrong) doesn't intrude a great deal unless threads start getting abusive or too long winded.

At last someone agree's with me, thanks mate for saying how it is, we will most probably get shot down in flames. or like in AMTRA if you post anything they don't like they will delete ya post.
I dont think anyone would shoot you down and definitely not delete your post :)
Your opinion is as valid as anyone elses on here , your dead right about misunderstandings on the internet , a lot can be missed with the written word as opposed to face to face ::)

That's nice to hear, I was thinking that motorcycle ppl weren't very nice ppl anymore, reading ya replays it has restored some faith back in ppl, now can I ride my 1988 GS 350 at any of ya meetings ?

Is that the enduro model? There are plenty of vinduro rides in Victoria...maybe not this late in the year though. Look up Veri on google. To ride/race your 1988 model bike in MX, you would need to join up with Viper (also on the net) as they are the club in Victoria that caters for your bikes year.
Cheers, Mark
