I am about to make a DRM 500 just like the DRM 400 I made which is on this site under features but I require some parts to do so.
Does anyone have an RM 125 A or B tank, Rm 125 seat A, B or C. TM tank may fit but they are probably pretty rare. I am located in Brissy.
Thanks
Glenn

Since I spoke to you last at Tamborine I have the DRM 400 about 90% complete Plus a DRM 500 awaiting time to finish off .
The DR 500 is a lot wider on the top frame rails than the DR 400 ....the Rm 125 seat is approx 15mm too narrow ....the tanks no problem with a few mods ;)
-
It's a bit out of your way but D&R motorcycles (I'm sure that's right) in Roma had an aluminium RM tank hanging up in their back shed when I came back from Conondale last year.
You never know

Pleased to find out im not the only one with the DR disease, I have a DRM 500 also witch has 38mm RM250x front end,RM400n/t swingarm and rear wheel, Foxair shocks.
Motor apart from 38mm round slide mikuni is standard.
Tank, seat etc is next any hints welcome.
Will try to put some photos up soon, any info would be good.

They way a Ton and a half, pull like a teenager and are dirt cheap to buy .
I have about 6 of em 81 thru to 83
Up in sunny Queensland there's one kicking around at most of the VMX meet's He tells me he has disconnected the balance chain and it revs harder and vibrates stuff all
-
hmmmm..disconnected the balance chain and it runs harder eh. Now oldfart, I did have thoughts of that when I owned my DR thinking along the same lines of less intertia = better response. Alas the mighty DR is up at bro's place now but I have often pondered those very same thoughts for the TSX250 balancer shaft..as Sixto Rodriguez sang, I wonder..wonder I do :-\

Photos of a small part of my DR collection, 250Z is raced in a class we call EVO Lites in our NZ VMX series
500 has to race with open class 2 strokes, as you can see needs a tidy up.

Well I didn't expect such interest but then again when I made the DRM 400 about 4 years ago I was receiving Emails world wide on what to use to make it a competitive VMX DR.
The removeale of counter balances does increase responsive rev's as I did this to an XL500. apparently as someone noted they don't vibrate like my XL did although it was great at get rid of mud stuck to the bike.
On the DRM 400 after months of testing I came up with the following.
RM 250 C swingarm
RM 125B tank
RM 125 B side covers
RM 125 C seat
Mikuni 34 mm with jets to HL500 specs or close to it
An alloy muffler
and PE 175 front end because I had it.
I hope to do the same conversion but didn't realize the frame was wider so I'll have to re think the RM seat.
The 400 motor was standard and that was the let down, the 500 flies and it should handle after the suspension upgrade. I just installed the longer DR forks and S&W shocks.
Apparently I came over the step up at the Conondale Classic and nearly bounced off the bike when I landed.
The bike looks dog ugly so if anyone can help please send me a message.

Have done the counter balancer trick, but only removed the chain so they still in there, will chuck them out when i do motor rebuild, makes quite a difference.
Does anyone know if these motors where used in flat trackers in the US?
Recieved some info from helpful people on the old forum that XR500 piston 79/82 is the piston to use, as has same size pin and deck height and can get wiseco Hi Comp, plus std XR is all ready 1mm o/s from DR so big bore options aplenty.
If anyone would like to share any info, I would like to listen and learn.
-
Where do you want me to start .Shit loads of spare"s ferrited over the years.
I would post a pic of me creations, but apparently they don't post too well
DR 400 MODIFIED
DR 500 MODIFIED
Heard of the honda piston swap but know of anyone that has tried it , so I have gone in the other direction and have pressed the 500 sleeve out and will be replaced with the 600 ; the paddle has been removed along with the gears and chain ( proto type )

Hey Barron, I had a DR500 in about 82/83 (and one of the first competition only DR250s in Qld). I also had a 370 before that. The 500 had a far better motor, revved out great and plenty of power but never the same hit off the bottom as the TT500. But I didn't much like it in the bush, heavy and lousy suspension. But set up with good suspension and all the heavy road gear off it and it should be very nice. If I get up there next year I'll be begging for a ride!
Here's a pic of the mighty DRM400:

DR fan,
I'm not sure if I answered one of your posts in the past or not but get in touch with Darryl at Darryl August motorcycles in Taupo. I rode his bike a few years ago when I visited and it's a nice ride.
I still owe the guy a big thank you

I remember the day Brent. Darryl still punts it around and is still as fast as ever ;D
-
Why did I ever sell that bike, it looks great in the picture.
So you had a DR250, how was that to ride and what modifications did you do to it.
-
Yep, sure does look nice. Dunno why you sold it :) but is it still around anywhere? I've never seen it again.
The 250 was a non-complianced competition only one like the US DRs. Little headlight and taillight, less muffler etc. Pretty gutless but handled great. Much better to ride than say an XL/XR250 or whatever. Loved it, so easy to ride etc. But I bought a PE175Z because I just couldn't cope with the lack of go.

here you go relive your youth

hmmm..looks like oldfart :P
very tidy DR500, it's complete, it's a runner..and, (it states!) ready to race! 8)
A simple straighten of zee rear brake stay would go a long way to making her look nicer and maybe give back a little adjustment on those rear brakes ;)
-
:-\ hmmm..now I look closer..there does seem to be a lot of silvery frostings..for a moment I thought it was all polished :P
-
DR 250 tank by the looks of the cap , STD front forks and no it's not mine ;D
-
Have all the DR workers been on holiday or to busy rebuilding to post any updates on there bikes, whats hapining out there in the world of trick DR,s
-
An in between project while I'm waiting on bits , DR 400 frame mark 2 stripped of all unwanted brackets plus new added for Rm side covers - steering stop - all welds ground back and TIG over . Home sand blast frame and base coat the same day ;)
First shot is frame drying for 2 weeks ...2 pack black 1 light coat ... at home
further updates to come
Motor still in development stages :) undecided Sp 370 or Dr 400

some states actually got those competition white DR 250's with compiance plates and they even had the PE blinkers on them. i kinda wouldnt mind one but yeah maybe a bit gutless.

Here is John Zordan's competition model DR250 when new, competing at a one-day at Canungra. Notice the Queensland road rego sticker under the headlight - ah, the wonders of living in Queensland.
Yes it was pretty gutless.

ah yes, QLD reg was easy..even saw an xs650 yam wasp outfit, XR75, a YZ125C and quite a few MX125's breeze through without much fuss and most running total loss :D
along with the reg I also notice the Rat shirt in good taste 8)

Nice to see a pic of the white DR250. They were a rarity too, but what a lovely bike to ride. In the tight stuff they were magic. Here's a couple of pics of mine, first at an enduro near Brooweena in 1982-ish, and secondly showing that even without power you could still wheelie them...

You appear to have a look of concentration in your eyes in the wheelie shot

Doesn't everyone?

DR 250Z certainly are alot of fun, but a little gutless standard, where easly regestered in NZ which made them quite popular, myself and a mate race them our evo-lites class and after alot of work and a few failures we have them going much better.
They seem to shit ignitions but apart from that issue no major problems, maybe why I have 7 and only 3 with spark.
They turn up for sale often cheap as,if you want to make them go concentrate on compression and carb.
