hi all I was wondering if some one can shed some light on the problem I am having with my 81 kdx175 front brake drum
I have look at drawing and parts list thinking there is supposed to be a wash of some sort in there but nothing anywhere as the lever is jamming on the outer fork tube and the bolt is hitting the top as you can see in the photo. Or is any of it look wrong as in parts or set up and yes I have had the bolt in the other way. I have only ridden for a short time and the brakes felt sh!t so replaced the cable shoes did up the fork and was putting it back together when I noticed this problem. any help would be great
cheers tony

looks like the wrong arm :-\ will check on mine tomorrow but i think it should be a cast alloy arm .
-
thanks for that I was hoping it would be something simple
cheers tony
-
it looks the same as mine but the brakes are shit any way
-
It is a tight fit but it should clear okay.
If you have the wrong cable then the arm may be sitting at the wrong point on the spline.
I tweaked mine and my brake works fine.

checked all that I got over the problem by cutting a small piece out so that the bolt head is recessed abit and all works fine now I think the bolt may have been a touch on the bigger side now just have to adjust the arm and should have working brakes well as good as any kdx from what people say

Hi Tony
you're not the first, a 80's mod to fix that problem on my 175.
Cheers

You can get them to work Tony they just don't like mud.
Cheers, Grahame
-
what have they done there filled in the top and then put a thread into it
looks like a common problem with them maybe why the brakes aren't the best. so what are they like on your bike with the arm like that.
thanks for the photo
cheers tony
-
The top of the bolt has been taken off and the thread brazed into one side of the arm.
-
so the nut is on the bottom then ???
if so does that mean you cant get the arm off
cheers tony

I got it wrong ::) the cast arm is on the KX 125 but a KX arm should fit a KDX .

Hi Bill,
That alloy arm solves any clearance issues with the fork, can you tell me if there's any difference in the length of the arms ?
