Title: Pre 78 era bikes.
Post by: Slakewell on November 19, 2013, 04:43:37 pm
What bikes would you say fall into the era of Pre 78 not just the date of manufacture but in essence the same as other pre 78 bikes. Bikes for example the Kawasaki A4, Bultaco Mk11 etc. There are some bikes that will never be great evo racing bikes but just fall out of pre 78.

I would say RM C models and  YZ E models BUT they are a long way from TM M models and YZ C models  :-\ you have to consider the worst bikes in the class as well as the newest in class .Kawasaki A$ models are a world away from 75,76 KXs as are 78 CRs from 76,77 models .

TM Bill IMO the A4 looks more a pre 78 bike than an Evo bike. It looks like if it was a 77 model it would be one of the few bikes you would not have to un engineer to make it legal? What is the shock and fork travel?

How cool would it be to see a few of these line up? But who would race one in Evo?

It's my favorite era (75-77).  Except for maybe 81-83 I can't think of a three year period since where things changed so much and so quickly.  My favs are:

1977 Suzuki RM125B
1976 KTM MC5 250
1977 Yamaha YZ400D

agree with T.H. on this one, well the years mostly, 75-77 but 81-85 are mine, BEAUTIFUL BIKES and big changes, more or less old to modern in those periods, fantastic years for MX and PLENTY of tracks (unlike now!)

cheers,
Kt.
