Title: Fuel Tank Builder Recommendations
Post by: Tony T on November 04, 2013, 04:40:36 pm
I'm looking at having 3 tanks built from scratch. (All different)
Has anyone got any recommendations for a great metal worker?
Preferably in S.A. or Vic as they would need to have the bike to do it, but might consider NSW if need be.
Thanks in advance.

Tony I know of a bloke here in the Yarra Valley east of Melbourne who does tanks. I can't vouch for him as I haven't dealt with him but I have his contact details if you want to have a chat. Cheers Jerry

Not local, but their tanks look pretty good and for not bad money.

Thanks fellas.
I've had a few blokes look at the job and have been knocked back. I think because it's such a shit of a job it would be hard to charge what it's really worth.
Those last 2 certainly look like they could do what I want, but the issue would be having a bike to work off as there's less than half a dozen in the world.  :-\
Jerry, I'll send you a pm.

First bloke I called, but I couldn't get him excited about it.
There would be a heaps of hours in it and he'd be too nice to charge out the whole lot which means it's just not worth doing for him.
I will get him to do the exhaust for me though.  ;)

what about either vintage car resto contacts, or aviation engineering / repair people?  their work is of a high standard.

Give mctrader an email, i think someone around Wonthaggi VIC did a tank for their cafe racer, nice job too from what i saw. Google mctrader cafer project, had a chrome tank and red frame all created from a early cb750.

Thanks for the ideas, folks.
Working my way through the list of suggestions.

Another one to cross off the list. They won't do it......  :(
Correction, they will do it, but I have to buy 5 of each tank.

I will give them a try, Mick. Thanks.

No rush, mate. I've been hanging on this project for 12 months now, but at least it's a bike I might actually ride.  ::)

You say that at every time of the year.....  but you forget I've been there in mid winter...... minus feckin' 12 overnight and top of 2!!!
It's gonna be 35 here tomorrow. That's more like it!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you don't have any luck, I know a bloke in Shepparton Vic who will more than likely take it on. He said he would do an RC replica tank for me so I figure he could do any tank. And he loves old bikes!

Thanks TBM. I've had lots of blokes say they would do it until they see what I want!  ;D
I did get a reply from one bloke who can do it and has shown me previous work that it fantastic, but the cost would be close to $10k all up which I just can't justify..... or afford......  :-\
Send me a pm with his details if you like. It can't hurt to ask.
