Title: YZ125E Wiseco Piston single ring versus two ring OEM
Post by: oldyzman on November 02, 2013, 12:04:02 pm
I have found that the single ring wiseco doesn't last very long- seems to have lost comp fast, what is the downside of using an OEM two ring piston Piston? I was told to use a DT piston just have to modify the bottom semicircle cutout on the inlet side at the bottom and has two rings - one thicker than the other...

Drag and friction. On a competition 125 there is no need to run a twin ring piston. A ring would need replacing after 3-4 hours or 3 meetings.
There maybe another issue, is it a cast iron bore?Does the cylinder have through studs or just short base studs to bolt the cylinder down?

Gday Lozza,
It is a cast iron bore it has short studs from the cases - nuts hold the cylinder on. The cylinder has Studs then the head has Nuts. It is 4 Dirt track meetings old. Plus some tuning time

If it had through studs you could torque plate hone that cylinder which is helpful. Three meetings would be as far I as I would let it go.
