Title: what year is the Maico water cooled

 :-[ so what year did the open class get water cooled and what cc is it?

For the MC490 motocross it was air cooled in 84, water-cooled in 1985, then a power valve added in 1986, all 488cc.
The enduro model 490(488) was available in either water cooled or air cooled for 1985.

dont know yet, but its a tea kettle with Maico cast (embost) on to the jug :o  as you said on the  link on the Maico page (see Zabel) and we might hava revived Maico by Zabel, like you said around 1985 apparently ??? 71 ponny power  8) thanks for all your info to date, so I should put a couple of pics up and see what we got here ;)
