My Ambo son rides a mountain bike down at his home base in Tumut.
I recently was down there watching him compete in an event and was interested in there lap scoring method.
They had a fellow sitting at the finish line with a computer and a mat across the finish line with a pickup loop built into the mat.
After the finish all the info, winner placegetters lap times etc were all available.
I spoke to the gentleman about various aspects of the systems the being applicable to bikes with engines, and they can use a loop under the track for M/cycles.

The point that got my attention was that the transponder is a totally expendable  stick-on bar code at a cost of approximatly 60cents each!

The overall cost for this bloke to do his thing for a day is comparable to what we have used at Nepean, with the benifit of no possible cost for the transponder if is lost or destroyed! cheers pancho
