So, just in case I can not get rid of this VR project anybody got cool ideals for building a Frankenbike out of it? This "Hontesa" is the only hing I can remember.

Any chance an XL 350 would fit in the VR frame?
(I would not use the VR frame, but instead use my V75 frame) ;)

500 yamaha motor should fit a mate has a H6 with a 500 yamaha in it.

Looks very much like a VA 125 frame with a early tank.

I actually started to build one using a King Scorpion frame and an XL350 frame. I believe that the Scorpion frame is almost identical to the VR unit but for the material used to make it. It's a long time since I built the bike but I recall that I had to do some major surgery to the bottom frame rails to accommodate the deep Honda sump. I sold it to Slakewell when it dawned on me that the Scorpion frame was much heavier than the stock XL frame. A VR is of course made from much lighter Chro-Mo as opposed to the 4mm wall thickness mild steel of the trail bike but the work involved is still the same, or even more considering the extra care needed with chrome moly..........bad swap.

Very sweet job on the little Spanjapish one above, of course using my beloved ubiquitous SL125 powerplant for the frankenheart ;). But...Could not see myself hacking a Cro-mo Monty frame on a few fronts. Being they are a pretty rare good looker standard, and there not short on go and handling either , also Cro-mo is crap to work with..
Having said that, perhaps a mild steel donor model would face mutilation by my warped brains machinations. Cheers Tim754.
This does come from a loony that fondly remembers his SL125 fitted with a CB500Four.... ::).

Please please please please do not butcher a VR250 chassis to fit some other engine particularly a bloody four stroke :'( :'( or for that matter a V75 or VA chassis.
The VR250 is one of the best Pre75 250s available - parts are plentiful and you have the engine and running gear why not just make it into what it was intended to be a bloody good, reliable, great MX bike

That's why I used a shitty King Scorpion frame. Besides raising the ire of Montesa lovers everywhere by chopping a VR frame, it's a crap engine swap anyway. The stock Honda frame is light and handles well once you chop all of the bibs and bobs off it. If you still feel the need to build a Hot Rod Montesa, a good engine for that VR frame is a TM400 Suzuki.....not a lot of cutting.

Been away from the forum for a while & I'm a bit late on this thread. But thats no VA125 or VR frame on the Hontesa. If my memory serves me correctly its an 18M Cappra 125 frame (which weighed a ton) & tank with VA125 swingarm, wheels, forks & triples by the looks. The frame would only be about twice the wt of the original Honda frame! Don't see the point - heavy, slow, looong - but it sure looks nice.
Tahitian, I think if you check the weight of yr V75 frame against the VR frame you'll find it's about twice the weight. At least mine was - 20kg for V75 frame & swingarm. ie 44 lbs

That's why I abandoned my XL/King Scorpion hot rod. The stock XL frame was much lighter...with the added bonus that the engine bolted straight in ;D.
What happened to Montynut? I just noticed that he's now a guest...........have I missed something? Greg's one of the real doers here in NSW so I hope all's well.
