Looks original and complete.E bay USA best for anything you need.Post can be expensive but good choice of parts.Nice score regards Richo.

Nice bike. Good luck with the project. The seat covers on ebay for $30 out of Thailand are real nice. Looks like the front wheel is on backward? There are a ton of NOS parts out there for that bike, which is nice.

I thought MX125B's were yellow? I had a mate back in the day that had a yellow one.
-
The "A" models were yellow.
-
the tank has got the same graphics as the tt/xt500C's had or does it have the wrong tank on it? its a nice start to a resto though ;D
-
top score!
"A" is Yellow
"B" is exactly how you see it in the pic
"C" is similar graphics to the above "B" with a different shaped tank and layed forward shocks as the obvious differences and the "C" was the last true MX as the later 175/125s were just trail bikes with the lights removed.
this little "B" is every bit as good as a YZ/A and pre~75 legal 8)
Here's one i sold a few years back

That's correct, the '74 A model was yellow and the '75 B model was white. They're otherwise pretty much identical and the B is legal for pre 75 as a flow on. Here's a shot of the MX125-B I found out on the footpath during a council clean up in Sydney's leafy Castle Hill along with a TM250 and an electric mini chopper. It was a pretty clean little bike, original in everything including the tyres except for a DT175 top end . It's now residing with Rob in Whyalla, South Australia.

Vandy......I hate to put my anorek on in this warm weather but I notice that your bike has black side panels...was that original to your bike or was it a 'Special Vandy Mod'. All of the MX125-Bs I've seen had white side covers.
-
It's a special we have up here in QLD Firko....it's called "rattle can black" ;D

a cheap can of black paint jumped into my shopping trolley when i was at Bunnings...
i'm a shocker at refurbishing old plastics and the faded look of their condition was crap so paint to the rescue.
i probably should of painted a white oval boarder pinstripe around it for that "bling" effect...
it was either that or a monster sticker ;D

Now here I was thinking Vandy had a special works part on his tiddler Yamaha ::). For being a smarty pants I'll now be looking very closely at your bikes in eligibility scrutineering Sonny Jim :-*.

For what its worth, I prefer them black Vandy....not that I'll ever own one of these girly bikes ever again.

As usual you all are a weath of information! :o
A few things I have found so far, the left sidepanel is fiberglass and the right is plastic, is that normal or has the right one been replaced? Oil injection is gone which is ok with me. Also the pipe appears to be missing the silencer, is the stock unit one piece or does the muffler slip on as normal. And yes it is a girly bike as it is intened for my two girls, but should be cool when I am done with it. Cool enough to run in the vintage class here (75 or older) ;D Now where did I see that 175 top end?
Cheers, Chris

one fibreglass and one plastic sidepanel is standard fair on all the twinshock MX's,
sort of a poor attempt as a heat shield from the pipe.
silencer is welded on as you see in Firko's photo.
for your girls,
leave the bike stock...
for you,
fit a set of 34mm forks and clamps from the bikes bigger brothers... ;)

Now where did I see that 175 top end?
I know you're making a joke but unless you manage to find a rare (for Australia) MX175 top end I'd stick with the original. The DT175 barrel on my little bike had fairly rudimentary port timing and exhaust port compared to the MX 125 version and it's fairly mild in itself. A well known Sydney racer of the time raced an MX175 with 125 tank graphics in the 125 class and it didn't show any domination over the legal bikes. I briefly raced an MX125-B back in the early days of vintage and even though it was pretty slow with my fat arse on it in standard trim, I fitted a C/X model 6 speed bottom end and the extra gear made it a much better little bike. Of course, that little mod is illegal and I pretty quickly brought mine back to stock and sold it. I did, as Vandy suggested, fit MX250 34mm forks and triple clamps and conical front hub wheel (a bolt in from memory), decent shocks (I used Bilsteins), a better pipe and a Boyesen reed kit which really livened up the little bike. Engine wise the Yamaha is better than the TM125 and as good as the CR125 but like the Suzuki is restricted by its 5 speed box. As I wrote elsewhere....if the MX/YZ 125 had come with a 6 speed box in 1974, the Elsinore 125 might not have had such a solid place in motocross history.
-
I fitted a DT 175 top end to an MX 125 bottom end and a GMC YZ 125 chamber and 34 mm carb and it hauled .
Forget the stock pipe ( very restrictive ) and get a GMC pipe ( order it now for Xmas ;D) they really make a huge difference .
-
Thanks for all the Info everyone, I think I will rebuild it as the 125, stock pipe....for now. And fit the 35mm forks off of the Carabella Just in case I am forced to race it in Vintage. I have a slew of newer yamaha front hubs and spokes.

Are these forks overkill or not? And are they Betor or Ceriani?
Chris
-
The forks are Mexican Betor Ceriani knock offs. They came on Coopers and Carabelas and some Can-Ams . They're externally the same as Cerianis and slightly different to Spanish Betors internally....more like Cerianis. I've got them on my Hindall Ducati and Jonesy's got them on Black Betty.......good forks. However, why chop up a rare Carabela for a set of forks. You can get 34mm Yamaha forks off everything from DT1 to DT400 and all 250's and open classers in between. They bolt straight into the MX125. You'll probably have some serious fabrication to mount the Betors. Better to go with your original idea and keep it stock until the girls show that they might want to race.
