Advertised as a 1990, but 99.9% sure it's a 1989, good price too.

Yep 89,If the seat is the original colour the bike came with it's a YZ-WR first model of em ;)
-
Yeah,
I thought maybe WR as well, Did the WR's have different gear ratios to the YZ's ?
-
In those days it was a wide ratio as far as i reckon...
-
Old mate has it built on the 7/1990.....which would make it a 1990 or even a 1991 model.
-
and the WR250 had 18" rear wheel instead of 19"
-
Didn't the swingarm and linkage change for the 1991/92 model? 7/90 would still be a 1990 model, and this bike has the earlier swingarm. I'm not sure of any difference between 89 and 90 models?
All early WR's had lighting coil, wide ratio gearbox and 18" rear wheel. I think a larger tank came out in 92.
Cheers, Grahame

the 89 had champagne coloured forks and 3RD designation, 90 was blue forks , same as YZ had red outer tubes.
90 had lowered radiators to give lower center of gravity, and were a great bike.

So not pre 90 legal...

Yes, it's an 89 model.
-
It's an 89 the blue seat is an aftermarket so it maybe that it is a YZ and not a WR you would need to get the VIN to check,

Spoke to the seller who advises he believes it's a 1990 model. According to him he initially believed it was an 89 model but recently purchased brake parts for it that were for an 89 model but they didn't fit. When he went back to Yamaha they told him it was a 1990 model (although I forgot to ask him if they told him that based on the frame number).
Anyway he is going to check the frame and engine numbers and post them up tonight so the confusion can be sorted out then.

I don't know or care if it's an '89 or '90 model but I wish punters wouldn't stick those awful Monster Energy stickers on everything. I saw one on an otherwise nicely prepped bike at Crawford River and I had to fight myself from peeling it off when the owner wasn't looking >:(...................(Jeez it feels good to have a little rant 8).)

Didn't you know Firko, 1 Monster energy sticker kit = 5 extra HP at the rear wheel...

Seller has just listed VIN, 10th digit "K" = '89 model...Weeeee :)

I wonder were he got that date from,Pretty sure Yams of this era only had a VIN ,No build date except for the rims maybe,perhaps compliance plated :-\ I seem to recall them bringing out a limited run of plated ones in the WR version if it is one :-\, I think they may have had a lighting coil too :)
-
In the VIN and engine number ..
3RD = WR 1989
3JE=YZ 1989
-
He is showing it as 3RB .. will check out my lists when I get home
-
3RB is YZ 250 WR the 10th digit "K" is 1989 build.

You might be right as my 2 1989 YZ250's are 3JE - xxxx. But that is weird because as I posted earlier, I called him and he told me he purchased 1989 parts for the bike and they didn't fit so he went back to Yamaha who told him it was a 1990 model and supplied the parts that did fit.
Anyway I don't care as I'm not in the market for the bike :)
