I think there are a lot of specs on the allSuzukicycles web site
no worries thanks, tried suzukicycle.org but dont cover all models in all years ie will do RM465 51 hp @ 6500 rpm but not RM500 :P just wanted to do some hp comparisons especialy when they changed the barrel on the 1984 RM500E apparently the same as the RN500,more power at bottom end and mid range.
can anyone supply the porting profiles ( dimensions) for the RM500E 1984, please

I sold all the 465/500 models new
I was also at the factory in Sept 1982 as they rolled down the production line
I also sold Yam 465/490s new from 80 till 85
I also rode MX and Dirttrack on both models
To me it was never about the horsepower it was always about where it was,
Lucky for me I had several friends who knew a little about expansion chambers
10mm here 10mm there,
Oh almost forgot Frank Pons and his slightly stroked cranks
Marvelous what 509cc would do over 490.

Torque output tells a bigger story(HP is torque X rpm) then it all has to match the gearbox. The YZ has a fantastic looking spread of power.
-
Both were / are great bikes to ride
My choice is
RM for MX
YZ for Dirttrack
.
Not to hijack the thread
Are you chasing more horsepower for the RM??

Interesting article on www.suzukirm500.com that shows the 84 RM500 neck and neck with the CR500 for HP but better in torque - however found another article this morning stating that the 84 RM500 was a dog at 43 HP around 10 hp less than the CR500????
-
YZ 490 has some serious torque.
