Maico's ever come with a Motoplatt?
-
The MC440 i had did have a Motoplatt ignition, i think this guy gets his valuation from a pretty reliable source.....He sold a very very nice one in the past few months for not too far off 10k ;)

Those particular motoplatts were standard supply for the MC machines.
Maico switched to them in 1978 for new magnum MC engine range.

He's either a really good salesman or the 10k Maico is a very exceptional bike. Except for the occasional CCM or Matchless Metisse I haven't seen that kind of money paid for any vintage motocross bike for quite a while . As the boys have said, Maico has had Motoplat from the '78 Magnum on. They work fine......until they strop.

A Maico 490gs on Aussie ebay went for $12,500 early last year to a buyer from South Australia.
It was even debated on this forum cause no one could believe they bought a chopped up GS turned MC for that sorta money.

Early last year is pushing nearly two years ago and a lot of things have happened to the economy since then. If I wanted another 490 Maico and the prices are indeed up around the 10-12k mark, I'd be shopping in the US where they average around half that price range. BTW...I have no problems with the seller getting as much as he can for his bike...good luck to him.

Yep its a completely different market altogether over in the US compared to Australia.
But I have noticed that our prices have come down a little bit the last 6 months.
Was watching a 81 Maico 490 at the start of the year on Craigs list going for $2,800 but
went ahead and bought a local bike for shit load more and im still shelling out the dollars
on trying to get it set up right so I can race it.
