I've just purchased an IT465 stator and rotor, hopefully to fit to one of my DT1/RT1 motors. As I haven't got the ignition in my sweaty hands quite yet, I've got a few questions for the brains trust.......................
*Is the crank taper the same? I know that the IT250 matches up to the old motor but does the 465?
*Does the stator fit the early cases without redrilling holes? Once again, the 250 fits but I'm not sure of the 465.
*If the stator plate doesn't bolt on, will the stator coils fit the earlier stator plate?
*I didn't get the CDI unit so will a DT400 unit's wiring plug straight in?
*Is there a particular ignition box that offers a better ignition curve for motocross?
*Is there any difference between the 250-465 J ignitions? I may use it in my IT250J if it doesn't upset any of the bike's stock characteristics. Are the flywheels the same weight?
Below: The actual ignition I purchased

Gday Firko I tried to fit my YZ465 stator and flywheel to my YZ250G and the taper was smaller on the 250 but it is a inner rotor type ignition .I wanted to fit a flywheel to it to smooth the power a bit ,didn't work . I think the Yamaha,s with external flywheel have the larger taper . The flywheel on my IT250K looks the same as my IT465 and YZ465 don't know if there the same weight . the part # is the same IT250J and YZ465/IT465 flywheel .

The base plate on the DT1/RT1 has 3 mounting screws, the one in the photo has 2.
The taper is different but how much I'm not sure. It would be easier for yourself to find a DT / YZ / IT pre 1980 type which has the 3 mounts and the right taper.
Roy Dale off this forum had a DT250D-G electrics available (South Coast NSW). I'm running a DT250G system on my RT1. Any of the CDI's (DT/YZ/IT) from the same vintage will work well. I don't see much if any variation in the ignition curve. I've tried both DT250G and a YZ400D CDI's on RT1 and I can't pick any difference. Both rev well and both pull from right off the bottom. I run the DT all the time now.
If you want to stay with the IT system you have then Vandy has used the small taper flywheel. He knows whats needed.

If it doesn't fit, no probs...I'll use it on my IT250J. I'm using DT400 B or C rotor and stator with a Rex Gaunt CDI box* on the piston port 360 in my Cheney and PVL on my DT1 for the upcoming Nats.
