Gents,
have managed to find some good, but faded, OEM plastic for my bike. However as I work away and can't get them to me I need to send them somewhere to get polished up. I remember somebody in the States offering a polishing service - anything closer to home though? In Aus? Does anyone have the contact details of teh guy in the States?
thanks

There's this mob advertising in VMX mag. Based in the UK but offer world wide service on restoring plastic fuel tanks. I'd assume that if they can do tanks, any other plastic can be done too.

There is also a mob on ebay that offers the same service. Search, "fuel tank restoration" and it should come up
-
thanks - will have a look ;D

Just had a look myself on ebay.com. Not aussie ebay. Type, plastic gas tank restoration in the search field. Failing that, what plastics are they for Ross? How bad are they? I ask because I do a pretty bloody good job myself.....
-
Ross,
You can send them to me, or send me some pics and i can get a quote organised.

My partner in crime in the UK has had some dealings with this guy, apparently his technique is not up to scratch! He is using too much heat on the plastics, thus making the compounds in the plastic fragile, and tanks will eventually fail. Its a fine line, and if you don't get it right, its fatal for the plastics.

Nathan - thansk for that. The only reason I didn't come to you when I found your details was the parts are in the States now anyway. However Phils quote at over $1600USD for 2 side panels and 2 guards is a bit prohibitive I think?
So revisiting the "professional" job now - you never know TBM - may call upon you yet when they arrive ;D
-
Is that really $1600 ? Surely they can't be for real.... You need to asses the plastics when you get them in the flesh Ross. If they are dry and brittle ( ie, you can't flex them without hearing them crack) there isn't much chance for saving them. Other than that, deep scratches (gouges) also dictate the finished outcome as there is only so far you can go trying to remove them. Hopefully you have neither of those two problems and we can work the plastics back to something resembling near new again. ;D

Hey big boy, are these for the Honda....just buy a new shiney set from Les or VMX Racing....be the best couple of hundred you've spent.

Hey Ross
Yeah, i know Phil is a bit on the expensive side! I'm still awaiting some product to arrive that i can ship around so you guys can see the difference.
But, if its just polishing and small gauges, i can fix that here in Oz for a fraction of the cost and postage :D

Couldn't agree more! The VMXracing plastics are a great product.

Are you sure your name isn't Victa? Trying to cut my grass on doing Ross's plastics!

I'm a little confused, so who in Australia can repair plastic finishes?

I can John, I'm also a representative for Plastic Renovations in USA and UK.
But, it depends on the job, as to whether I pass it straight to Phil in the US.
I am in the middle of a 1/2 tank resto, I am going to bring to meetings with me, so you all can take a look, and make your own mind up!

Nathan - I think he was just taking the piss ;D
I have asked for the plastics to be shipped to home in perth - so will give someone a call when they arrive :D
Thansk for the info - it wasn't until I stumbled on Phils site I saw your details Nathan - maybe you need a bit more advertising?

Rito, hard to see peoples faces on here, it makes it hard to read them :-\ :-\
Yeah, were looking at some advertising in VMX etc as we speak :D
Thanks Ross

They are shiny & the fit & look is good but the Red is a darker shade than original if one wants a concourse job ;),I matched my tank to the VMX Racing plastics which worked out good but then it made the frame & motor look wrong, you could also paint them the darker red to match, depends on whether you want the matching or original shade of red :)

Who you callin princess Victa? And yes, I was taking the piss out of you, as you rightly deserve getting in the middle of a conversation between 2 people. Quite obvious you have no sense of humour!
What Ross does with his parts is entirely up to him. I wasn't trying to make any money out of repairing his plastics. I just offered my help.
I find it hard to believe that a rep of a company doesn't want to make any coin out of what he/she does, especially when they send stuff they can't do to their OS buddies to do. At 1600 for a set of plastic resto's, I think you need to find another company to represent!

Interesting, "getting in the middle of a conversation between 2 people" last time I checked it was a public forum? if you want to keep it between 2 people, use the phone?? :o
No its not the resto work that makes me $ or the service, I do it to help people out, and give them an extra option!
I'm chasing something else they have ;) ;) ;) Which, let me say, has a lot broader audience!
