Anyone elese having trouble with Maxwells..?? I ordered some mudguards and seat cover etc about 8 weeks ago.... after about 4 weeks , I thought , this is taking a long time to get from one side of the island to the other....so , I rang them up....Alistair had to ask me what it was that I bought, even though I had a order number from their system... he said he would track them down.. in the interim ,he would send me a new lot of stuff..?? but he doesn't have the seat cover or front number plate in stock any more (only 1 of each on hand, which I understand)..anyway.. about 2 weeks later a parcel arrives.. Goody!!.. open it up to find that some side covers that I didn't order are in the parcel, an airfilter that was the wrong one .. no seat cover and no front number plate... So , I send him an email to ask what is happening... a week goes by and no reply... another email sent last Monday.....still no preply...I think this might be last $200 odd dollars of mine that will be heading his way.. I could have bought the same stuff from the US .. but thought I should support the home team..
-
Haven't heard 1 good comment about the guy and have heard several bad ones from friends who dealt with him. Avoid like the plague I reckon..
-
I don't bother with Maxwell after a mate twice had a similar experiences to Watto a couple of years ago. I recall sitting around a campfire at CD one year and hearing punters relay a lot of alarming Maxwell experiences. I use VMX Unlimited or, if Les hasn't got what I need, the home shopping network (eBay, etc ;D).
-
l bought a couple of things, got sent the wrong part amongst the parts ordered.
Got it sorted out over a few weeks but l had to follow it up more than l thought l should have to.
Seems to me a lack/quality of staff issue at the core.
I too prefer to buy local but maybe not from Finley.
-
He pretty much doesn't have any stock....he orders it from the USA when you order it....that's why there is a delay....just a clever website...a lot of people run there businesses like that now. I too only deal with Les at VMX Unlimited....great guy and has stock.
-
When buying in Australia you can't go past Les at VMX unlimited, good honest prompt service and he stocks more than anyone else in this country..
-
Good mate down in SA ordered side panel for his TM got wrong ones when he rang the fella, he got abused :o and was told he should have been happy with what he got ??? Now I here Les is back and doing well, but he's taking some time to recover, I think he's getting someone in to cover his shifts whilst drinking pinacolatas 8)
-
Order S/H head for early DR250 four stroke (Yep no worries! got it in stock on the counter in front of me...) and eventually receive a DT250 head . >:( Wrong model I accept it can happen' but wrong brand and a two stroke head!!! Don't get me going on the abuse I copped with my follow up phone call.
-
If you had ever been to his place at Finley like I mistakenly did once, you would never deal with the guy. I have never seen so much of a clusterfluck in all my days. Anything he has that's half decent he doesn't want to sell. He had a KLX250 with a blown motor and some missing bits on it that I thought might be worth resurrecting with a 500 Honda motor in it. I asked how much and he replied he wasn't interested in selling it as a roller, only as parts. So the next question, how much for the swingarm, the frame, the wheels, the tank etc. I dunno was the reply, leave me your number and I'll get back to you. It never happened. The poor old salvageable KLX was left sitting in an overgrown paddock with the rest of his scrap metal out under the hot Aussie sun.
I honestly don't know how he became a supplier of anything, let alone some reputable companies products.
-
was he a superbike rider
80s/90s
-
yes and he was an MXer in the early mid 80's
-
If I didn't know better (which I do!) even I could be sucked in by his shameless self promotion on the website! ;D

I believe he has changed his ebay name to DCPLASTICAUSTRALIA...Maxwell Motorsport has disappeared from Evilbay (from my research...)
Bad Customer Service remains in the memory long after a cheap price is forgotten...
Les supports our industry...we support Les...Pretty simple...In my humble opinion....
-
I should probably mention that my own personal 1 experience of dealing with him was fine, ordered a DG muffler, paid cc and item arrived within 3 days. BUT it seems mine is a rare scenario, many friends and fellow riders i know have had less than satisfactory experiences with him!!

Wrecker Madness. Car or bike, young or old, it gets most of them sooner or later.
-
I believe he has changed his ebay name to DCPLASTICAUSTRALIA
I wonder if DC Plastic are aware of that?
-
Oh dear I ordered an air filter from him last week, damn!!!
-
I got a seat cover yesterday.... not as pictured at the web-site... has no gun sight logo on the back panel... gggrrrrrrrrrrrr
-
Always buying stuff of Les at VMX-UNLIMITED.
Never had a problem and the parcel always turn up within 3-4days.
Top service.
-
Have been burnt but never again $130 :'( for 3 plastic ovals had to keep asking to fax the acc to pay he wouldnt take them back
-
I had similar problems but I just kept on them and the refund came.
Took a week or so.
-
"Wrecker Madness. Car or bike, young or old, it gets most of them sooner or later." In a 100% agreement with you on that Nathan. Having worked for motorcycle wreckers I have seen the descent into the paddock of gross neglect for the pursuit of the dollar god path, gradually take them all.
-
Les has a bloke named glen working for him atm helping, I rang him up today bout some yammy parts very helpful bloke and didn't fart ass about ringing me back about the bits I was chasing, I've bought a fair bit of gear off les at Vmx unlimited, I bought some guards last week ordered them on Tuesday lunch time over the net, I had them turn up 7 o'clock next mornin on fast ways there in medowie central coast I'm up northern nsw not bad service at all ;) ;D
-
Les has a bloke named glen working for him atm helping ....
Jebus - Glen! Not that mongrel!
:)
Seriously, Les is a good bloke, Glen is a good bloke - if the fill-in is a complete non-bastard like Glen, then that's damn high praise for VMX Unlimited.
-
Glen has been a tireless worker for VMX mainly behind the scenes for many years.
-
+1 Les = Top Bloke
+1 Glenn = Top Bloke
Spend your money at VMX Unlimited. You will not be disappointed.

I also agree with this after a recent experience with a "wrecker' who operates through this website. Not only did he send me a useless part (and it was an airbox so it's was easy to see the holes the rats chewed in it, the missing lid and the cracked inlet manifold) he also stiffed me on the return postage. Anyone who wants to know who he was can PM me and I'll provide full details of who this guy to be avoided is >:( >:(

Me three.....Glenn's a nice bloke who's getting over his own health issues (broken leg) while helping keep VMX Unlimited afloat.

I will never deal with Maxwells again >:(
-
I will never deal with Maxwells again
Mudguard all wrong Mick?
-
Me to, I bought and paid for a DG Muffler for a RM465 which never turned up, full of excuses and still no muffler, I think that was about a year ago...
Avoid Maxwells definetly .......
-
Absolutely agree they are useless strongly recommend staying away unless you feel the need to be f$@%#d over..
-
not all wreckers are bad fellas,i know of one at Caloundra who seems to be ok.
-
Do you have the name and contact number for the one in caloundra!
Cheers
-
It took me nearly 12 mts to get a DG muffler for my 250t and when I did get it it was for a 400 had to get it resleeved wont use them again wont go through all the bullshit.
-
I reckon someone should send him the link to this thread ;D
-
Never had any dealings with them , they seem to spend a lot of money on advertising .
A link to this thread may bring to their atten that people ain't happy.
As i say i have never bought anything from them , but i respect the good people on this forums opinions and it seems that dealing with Maxwells would not be a smart move .
-
Which is a pity. He is a nice guy
-
Ted .... He may be a nice guy, but he has no business skills or ethic's. Yes I have been burnt also and still waiting coming up to 2 years in May.
-
Nice guys don't blatantly rip people off of their hard earned fun tickets....
-
There r better options out there for pipes and mufflers and parts just look past the full page ads and look to the smaller ones .THE guy is a complete arsehole advertises the stock doesnt have it so he hangs you out to dry like an apricot on a drying rack. Wake up vmxers hope he has a stand at broadford bonanza so i can tell him face to face 8).

Agree 100%, the bloke is a dill at best and if he is getting money for something he is not supplying you guys need to speak with the local Copper to have a word (& no you could not possibly have less faith in the local coppers than me) OR Fair Trading, he is in NSW so the local laws would apply.
He was attempting to sell me several bikes over the phone, calls back and forth etc, when it comes time to go down there to have a look, after excuses about him not being able to take pics etc, he admits that both bikes, a YZA360a and TM250 are both in bits in boxes.....glad I didn't drive all the way down there, he still wanted top dollar for what he said was really nice 360.

Maxwell is a farmer who happens to think he can make money from being a middle man, so no doubt he uses all the money he gets for orders to "see him through" until the next profitable harvest comes around....and by then he's forgotten who he owes what to.

Dueling banjos ??

tumbleweed ;D

I've never dealt with these Maxwells however my neighbour bought a DG pipe off them for his 400T. He tells me he got the right pipe (and muffler) within a week of order. J
-
Ordered a complete set of yz125h plastics off this guy on ebay 15dec. Last year. Front and back guard turned up but no side covers. Emailed him a couple of times and I get back "they will be going out in the morning" probably a line he gives everyone. I wish I would have read this thread before ordering off this clown and ordered plastics directly from dc plastics myself never had a problem with them.
-
I guess I got lucky with quad parts. Ordered and received within a week and was cheaper than from the USA.not sure I would order vmx parts off him though...
-
I ordered a rear guard for my IT 175 G and it arrived within the week..
-
Ordered a dg muffler for my 84cr250 and had it 3 days later
-
I ordered a pipe and muffler from them, and hoped for the best after reading the comments. Postage from US suppliers was crazy.
It arrived within a week :)
-
Parts i ordered finally turned up today. :) Postage really slow but eventually received everything I ordered. It was a lot cheaper buying from him rather than paying postage from America but a bit of a worry as the weeks go by an no delivery. I have bought items from him before and never had a problem
-
Good for you but still leaves a lot not happy ::)
-
I had $1000 worth of bits to buy and I rang three times and never had a return call after he said he would call back. Never again!!
-
Well finally I got the shits with the ATAC on my cr125re. Pulled the trigger and ordered 2 sets of the works fork guards and a DG pipe.
2 days later one set of the guards arrived at the front door 3 days from order the pipe turned up
About 10 days later the second set of fork guards arrived.
Well after a below average experience last time this time was just great!
Maybe they read the forum so good on them for improving the service and plus it looks awesome!!
Check it out

This company is a joke!
I sent a order for some tools that were listed on his website. They took my money and I never a month had pasted ...and I had not received a anything in the post.
So I sent them an email, asking what was going on. And what the status was with my order of my tools.
So I received a email saying that the girls that work for him are on holiday and that he needs to wait until they returned to confirm the status of my order.
I could not believe the reply! So I asked him could he not check it himself?
About a week later he replied and said that the tools were not in stock, so he would refund my money.
2 weeks had past and no repayment of money!
I then decided to call them. A guy answered the phone who claimed to be the boss.
He apologised for the delay, and said that they now have the parts in stock. That I ordered and he could now send the tools or give me a refund.
So I decided to give the guy a go, and go ahead with him sending me the tools that I ordered and already paid for.
Yesterday a parcel finally arrived at my door. Containing 2 tools inside the box (I originally ordered 5 tools) 1 of the Tool was correct to what I order. The other was not! And 3 others were missing!
I will never deal with this company again!
Shithouse customer service, and a bloody waste of time and money.
Not recommend.

I've never dealt with them but I hear a lot of mixed things about them on here .
Does anyone relay to who ever owns the business of the feed back he gets on forums . He seems to spend a bit on advertising and yet I never hear lots of people who dont have a good word to say about them .
Like I say I have never dealt with them so I have no first hand experience , but I would think twice before dealing with them due to the feed back I see on here .
I tried a couple of times to deal with another major importer of VMX stuff in Aus and never ever had any success , not good or bad but never responded to emails . I deal direct with suppliers in Europe and the US and find its much easier . Others inc a number of people over here deal with this guy with no problems ( save they seem to pay more than what I do due I suppose to double shipping :-\ )
A bloke I cant recommend highly enough is GMC , always a great product , great service and if you rush him he will tell you to get fuct in the nicest possible way ;D ;D ;D And hes a fan of the Green ones 8)
-
Bought new montesa VR guards, they are crap guards, I don`t know where he gets them, the rear was cracked, he promised to replace it, never did, I will never deal with him again. it amazes me how they stay in business.
-
I have bought from Maxwell Motorsports about 3 or 4 times. Each time it was a DG pipe or muffler.
I havent yet ever had an issue with him. He has always delivered on time and the correct item, although the last muffler I got wasnt exactly packaged well. Thankfully it wasnt damaged.
I guess reading this thread he isnt the best seller/dealer, but just wanted to share the fact that I havent had any issues with this seller.
:)
-
I have bought from Maxwell's IT plastic kits they were cheaper than USA
and received them in a week .
They were not a very a good fit but that's not his fault he only sells them...
The Stig
-
Ive had both experiences with them. I purchased a pipe and muffler and received them in a week. I also rang and asked if they had a mudgaurd in stock and was told yes and they could post it that day. Short version is I did get the guard some 3 months later and long after DC had sent me one from the states.
I wont use them again unless I have to.
-
I will not buy anything of them dogs.....from now on I only go to VMX unlimited or Geoff
-
VMX unlimited is them now so Geoff it is
-
VMX unlimited is them now so Geoff it is
VMX unlimited is who now?....... Maxwell Motorsports??
-
VMX unlimited is them now so Geoff it is
VMX unlimited is who now?....... Maxwell Motorsports??
Correct. They took over VMX Unlimited I believe.
I phone ordered some foot pegs. All good. (My one and only dealing with them.)
-

VMX unlimited is who now?....... Maxwell Motorsports??
Maxwell motorsport bought VMX unlimited off Les earlier this year, haven't dealt with VMX unlimited since especially when a lot of products are shown as out of stock
-
yeah - that's a point - didn't know it was now Maxwell but so often when I go on there looking for stuff it is out of stock. Makes you feel like they only order on an as required basis - and since a lot of their stuff comes from known suppliers maybe you should go there in the first place???? Not good for making one support Australian businesses.
-
How sad is that, the best (by far) business in the industry being taken over by the worst!! Im surprised Les even passed it on to someone with such a poor reputation given how hard he worked upkeep his own. Oh well, nice guys really do always finish last don't though :-X
-
can always get what we need Walter -just maybe somewhere else.
-
What an absolute load of bullshit. Maxwell is not the new VMX Unlimited. Yeah he bought some stuff off Les, but so did another guy. The other guy is Prime8Racing situated in Newcastle N.S.W.
Prime8Racing have just opened a factory in Newcastle and can supply parts for all vintage bikes. He also sells vintage bikes and does full restorations to clients needs. They also put back into the sport, unlike Maxwell, being the major sponsor and supplier to the fastest growing vintage club in Australia, vTr. and is also a sponsor of the Conondale Classic.
Give Mick a call on 0459 195 580
-
and the new kid on the block...... 8)
http://maicoatchippys.com.au/
-
Yes Prime 8 is the Go ...Its nice to ring up a Bike shop that Loves Old Bikes and supports the Sport..
Supporting Vintage motor cross and Vinduro ...
Got a few thinks off prime 8 so far good service ..
they just got a KTM riding top in stock putting in a Order for X-Mass ..
-
Maxwell gets there eventually ;D, I have had mixed results with some parts arriving quick and others I believe not even sent till I ring up weeks later ..........then take weeks to arrive, I buy with Paypal through his ebay store so stuff is covered but still a pain with the hit & miss service.
-
Like Ted said, Prime8 Racing, Mick's a top bloke like Les was......he's getting more and more stock all the time and has some quality tools as well. We all know who the dodgy operators are, Prime8 are not one of them.
-
Explain this to me Ted ....why is it cheaper and quicker to order the same parts MM have advertised on their site, arrive from the States with postage costs that are way over the top. Arrive within 10 days and a shit load cheaper than MM ???? and you don't get the BS stories that tend to drag on for weeks ie waiting till they have 20 lb order as its cheaper for them.
I'ts my money and I will spend it with whom gives me the best service.
-
What are you saying Stew? You've lost me.
-
why buy from Maxwell or any other local supplier, when you can have the same product landed at your door at a cheaper costing and quicker with no BS in between.
-
I don't know about that Stu. Depends on the price difference. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars to keep it local if the service is good. There's a couple of local bike shops i wouldn't give a cent to though.

Bang on.

So you've hung, drawn and quartered Prime8 before even giving them a go . Well thats the Anzac spirit right there isn't it. Not fuc..ng likely.
You move here from another country for a better lifestyle and then proceed to shit on Australian businesses prepared to go out on a limb and buy your parts from overseas. You can get fuc..ed and go back from where you came. We dont want your kind here.

Geez Ted can see the IQ of Australia coming out

Geez Ted can see the IQ of Australia coming out
Hey fair go Bazza, Teds as patriot true blue as it gets,,He just can't come to the phone at the moment
cause hes out back counting all his foreign built cars ;D
-
Read my post and absorb it Ted It's my money and I will spend it where and how I like. I'm not going any where in a hurry, I 'm sorry to inform you.
-
It would be good and welcome to be able to buy all the bits I need locally but sadly its just not going to happen. My latest project has seen me spend less than $100 in Oz and very close to $2G in the US UK and The Netherlands. This is mainly because the parts are not in this country but the few that are here have the local guys mark up on them that he is entitled to but Im not going to pay for the freight he had to and another to get them to my hands.
One item I bought last nite that is available locally has a price of $130 plus freight. The part i got from Germany cost me $50AUD plus $21AUD freight. As someone wise said.. Do the math.
good on someone giving it a go and supplying parts and doing what they enjoy but for support they do need to be competitive on pricing as well as giving good service or thats a part of the market they will miss out on..
-
Yep its getting harder and harder to be able to buy all your parts locally and its unfair to expect consumers to shop only locally and also unfair to expect wholesalers to bring in large volumes of slow moving parts. The wholesalers are just not bringing in the stuff for older bikes these days. They are catering for whats current and thats it. VMX/classic/vintage/antique bikes are still a small market compared the modern stuff. Try to get genuine Harley parts for a model thats not even 10 years old and its considered 'too old', they dont stock the parts and its all special order. Odd ball tyres make life hard too. They are not big enough sellers for the wholesalers to import even if they are listed on the global website. Many times i have had importers of some tyres special order in a half a dozen or so, but there's times when they cant even do that or when i cant wait 3 months for the next boat, which means ordering direct from somewhere overseas. I tried to get a sprocket for a SP 370 from the AFAM sales rep. Its in his catalog, but nope he said forget it, its too old, they dont bring one in.
-

+1 from me

I'm seeing where Stu is coming from here. A lot of grief can be had going through Maxwells when they need to take your money, then buy it from the US with associated shipping times and costs.
If they delay by a fortnight, they make a profit. Bullshit excuses ensue.
If they do a one on one order , they are at the mercy of the currency conversion plus ridiculous shipping costs.
Ultimately, they are running a business and need to make a profit, and will do what needs to be done to ensure that.
