Title: Maico info
Post by: Ktm181 on September 15, 2013, 10:57:09 am
Hello men,

nice day!  I need some advice, I am interested in learning a bit about Maico in general, are there any decent  books to read that you would recommend?  I am also interested in any magazine tests on the Magnum models in particular, especially the '78-79' 250 & 400 MX models.

Thanks in advance,
KT

Hey Bazza, nah, nothing so dramatic, but i can see one in my future!  Particularly partial to the 400 Magnum motocrosser, i've ridden the "mighty" '81 490 and whilst a nice bike i reckon my RM is better!  I do LIKE the Magnum though and they are not nearly as common as the 490.  I've had an eye on a 400 in QLD for a while but funds are escaping me, thought i best do my due diligence first!

I have an April '78 Popular Cycling, which has a test on a '78 MC250 Magnum. Popular Cycling had a bid of road bike stuff in the magazine as well, but usually did reasonable dirt bike tests. Anyway, I scanned the test and here it is, one page at a time (I don't know how to put multiple images in the one post yet)  :-[.

Was the Magnum tag a Yank thing ? there were hundreds of 78/79 Maicos at events in England at the time ( they were the club mans bike of choice ) but i dont ever remember them being referred to as Magnums ?  They are a lovely looking bike and back in the day they seemed to turn an average rider into a better rider due to their great handling, i would love a 250 but they are rare here in NZ .
