I hope to see ALL vintage motocrossers at Clarkefield next weekend, now Classic Dirt is not on this will be a great chance for all Victorians to get together. Even if you are not riding bring your bike and hang-out, it'll be great to meet everyone.
It's not far from Melbourne, it'll be great to have beer with you on Sat evening. Tell anyone you know that you think might be interested.
Round 5 - Clarkefield Grass Track

Thanks John for getting behind this event,
a handfull of us went out to the venue today to set up the track for next weekend. The property looks awesome with good grass cover over the whole track, we have changed a few things from last year and it is looking to be a really good track to race on. The landowner Shane has done a great job with the place and has now also provided us with a custom built transportable lap scoring building for the ladies to be in and stay out of the weather.
Track is marked out, starting gate installed and all that is left to do on Saturday morning is some bunting to define the car park area and hope for some good weather for the weekend. I will post up more detailed info in the next few days including start times for both days, a cost for those who only want to ride on the Saturday etc. Regards Peter.

Sorry guys, just a little bit of bad news for the Grass Track dinner.
The bloody Yabbies aren’t biting.
It must still be a bit too cold for them. Or they're smarter then we thought.
Normally we drop the nets in and 30min later they are full. But this time, 3 days, 4 nets and 2 different dams and only half a dozen Yabbies.
So it’s with regret. I have to say no Yabbies for Saturday night.
But don’t worry the food will still be sensational.

This should be a ripper folks get behind it support Vmx in Victoria. I'm quite looking forward to a friendly ride Saturday a few beers round the Bonny then get real Sunday morning. Hope the track still has the horsepower straight it had last year it gave the arm pump a chance to briefly settle!

I've just come in from out on the track, still looks great. Even with all the ran, even better for it... Only one puddle in one corner but plenty of room to get around it if it doesn't dry up. But I'm betting it will drain away.

Never ridden a Grass Track event but this sounds like a pearler. Can anyone give us a rough idea of track dimensions (total length and no of right and left hand corners) and what tyre patterns work best on a Moto Crosser. Would love to see some shots from this meeting.

Was gonna go the same way but because of the downpour this week ive put a MX51 Geo on the back of the IT, the TM has had a new Michi S12's fitted for a while and im not planning on changing them just for the weekend. Will be interesting to compare the two :)

Col, hard terrain is simply that - hard ground! Also this is a natural terrain track as opposed to a man made track that is used often, it will differ from year to year as it is layed out by peg and bunting just prior to the event, the only person that would be able to tell you the (appx) length of track and layout would be someone who has hammered in the pegs and strung out the bunting......and if you're really that keen to get a good idea then i'd suggest contacting "BilletYZ" on this forum or sending an email to organisers via the VIPERMX website. Hi all,
the Viper grass track event for this weekend is shaping up to be a big 2 days of VMX with confirmed entries from the VCM club and also the CSC club which is good to see. Below are some important details and a schedule for the 2 days on how the event will run, please print a copy of times etc. and keep them with you.
I have had a lot of enquiries from guys to just ride on the Saturday and not race Sunday and for these guys the cost is as follows.
Saturday only ride fee = $25 which includes Sat. only Viper membership.
Recreation licence if you don`t already have one = $25
All others that are doing both days the cost is as follows.
Entry fee = $70.
Viper membership for the 2 days if your not already a member = $20.
Recreation licence for the Saturday practice = $25.
Race licence for the Sunday = $55.
Please take note that the licence fees are set by Motorcycle Victoria and not one cent goes to Viper from these, sorry but these are not negotiable.
Time schedule for the 2 days is as follows.
Saturday: gates open 10am, sign in from 11.30am and thru the afternoon, practice to start at 1pm until 5pm.
Bonfire and catering will take place after practice is finished and people have made their way up to the other end of the property.
Sunday: Riders briefing at 8.30am, followed by a 10 minute session for anyone that didn`t take part on the Saturday to have a look at the track and this is to take place riding behind a track marshall so it doesn`t turn into a free for all flat out practice, 1st race underway around 9am.
Important items please take note.
Could you please make sure you have your race number clearly visible on your back so the lap scorers can identify you and score you correctly.
As per last year please do not use tear offs at this venue as the property normally has cattle grazing on it and tear offs are not on their menu.
The bonfire and catering will take place at the other end of the property, the landowner has advised that we can all drive to the bonfire and back to the pits inside his property without having to go out onto public roads. This means please take it easy to and from the pit area.
We will have flag marshalls again for this event so you will not need to do any flagging at all, we have a first aid crew there for both days.
The landowner will be running a canteen for us on the Sunday so please support him and make it known to him that all his effort is very much appreciated.

I do have a couple of questions though.... I have not pre entered as I am still trying to convince my ribs to heal good enough so I can kick start a bike without cringing in pain. Can I enter on the day? And I presume I need to join Viper ($20) for the day?
At this stage if I do make it I will more than likely only ride the Saturday unless I get the all clear from the ribs. If I do decide to race on Sunday, can I put in an entry for Sunday as well?

A couple from last year. Last year it rained the whole month leading up to the race, even the day before.
But come Sunday it was sunny, warm and mostly dry.. A little slippery at first but once a couple of heats had run it was good.

That first video from motox500racer was just a ride day we had here and the boys cut the track in. It was crazy fast.

Hi Mark,
yes we will be able to sort you out whichever way you decide to go and yes you would have to do the 1 day membership if you end up doing both days. We can get your bike started for you but it`s up to you not to hit the deck again. ;) Peter.

Hi all,
well what a top weekend this turned out to be. I am biased but i must say it was an awesome sight to see a paddock of green grass full of cars, trailers, caravans and vintage dirt bikes everywhere.
The Saturday was already showing signs of a top weekend with the weather looking perfect and a healthy number of people already setting up camp well before the start of the 11.30am sign in, the day had a very relaxed feeling with no one in a mad rush to get going. Practice took care of itself with riders heading out onto the track at a steady pace with no set time restrictions required all afternoon which seemed to work quite well, around 5.30pm only 1 or 2 where still circulating the grass track as the rest of us started to make our way over to the bonfire and spit roast dinner. The bonfire ended up being the perfect finish to a good day of practice with everyone having their meals and a few cold ones to wind down, the night was full of good bench racing and all involved seemed to be on planet VMX.
Now here comes Sunday morning with a few of us having a panic attack, what is this shit falling from the sky at around 3 in the morning ? Sunday was forecast to be sunny and no rain, well the rain kept up until around 7.30 in the morning with the track and car park now looking like a swimming pool. My thoughts were well we are done now who was going to ride in this soup and how can this dry up enough for anyone to take part, then Rob Kent smiles and says to me have faith mate this will dry up and all will be good. I thought yep bullshit no chance, but i have to admit he was 100% right and although the morning races were slippery the track was starting to come around and by the time the lunch break was finished the track had turned into traction heaven.
The whole day was non stop racing with a stack of close racing in each class and a very big bonus was no one required the first aid guys, it`s always a good thing when the 1st aiders a sitting down all day. The riders from all 3 clubs which included Viper, VCM and the Classic Scramble Club put on a good show all day for the spectators with racing finally winding up around 3.30pm and most people out of the place around 4.30pm.
I have had a lot of good feedback from the weekend which is really good to hear, this to me shows that bit by bit we are heading in the right direction and hopefully all involved went home with a smile on their face. As was said over the weekend we have to thank the property owner and his crew of people for making this race meeting a huge success and providing us with not only a great track and venue to race on but also for the great job they did with feeding all of us on the Saturday night and also all day on the Sunday. I hope we can make this a yearly event that will prosper into a well known and must do race meeting.
Thanks to all who helped make this event as good as it was, it was also very good to see some of the Viper members from years gone by back at the track and having a race and also helping out.

Kelvin & Jenny from K & J Thomas dropped in for a look (Trevor on left) and had a chat with KB who had a program from the old Arthurs Creek track from circa 74 I think.
Seems the old Arthurs Creek track was on Jenny's fathers property
