Title: New Member VIC OZ
Post by: Ngapuhi on September 10, 2013, 12:26:46 am
Hi all. My name is Gavin and located in Carrum Vic. Originally from Northland NZ but been in OZ for 20 years. I'm definitely a bike fan as I have 12 of them. Mainly roadbikes but my dirtbikes are all oldies, lastest model a 92. I have 2x 82 XR500's, 80 TT500, 83 TT600, 87 TT600 and a 92 WR500. I've joined this forum to get some info/ideas on the restoration of these bikes as I want them to look like I remember when I was a kid. I look forward to reading posts and checking out what others are doing to their bikes.
Cheers.

Opononi....I'm from down the road a bit in Moerewa. That's where my TT500 is at my parents place. I like my 2 strokers too, had a IT490 for years. Seen it on ebay before Xmas last year for sale (disc front and rear) and just about bought it back. I took revenge and bought the WR500 while I was working in Perth a few years back. The XR500's I've always wanted one.

It's home. Back in the day it was a tough little town and taught me some lessons in life, fairly dead now. Learn't all my riding there in the forestry 5 kms out of town. Had to get used to towing the bike on the trailer here in OZ. There, straight on the road at 13 on my 81 YZ125...few cop chases too.

Moerewa just a stones frow from OPO  ;) its a small world at times
I know what you mean about free and easy back there in NZ , there were no cops in opo as far as the eye could see , no need for rego , or a licence for the maoris ??? and some of the white folk ;D
I don't thing a bike in town had rego or lights ??? even some cars only had one head light working on a good night ;D
Still cracks me up thinking back to the old days , but it has not changed in the wild north of new zealand :o

Yeah "the lawless North". I went 'retro' when I was there last Easter and rode up to my cuzi's place 6km away on the TT. No helmet, reg or WOF. Strictly shorts and jandals.

Also used in the Pacific Islands and parts of Queensland too.

Yep been here a while and it has rubbed off on me. It's good to 'break free' now and again. I've got a cop as a neighbour now so breaking free has to be performed a bit more low key now.
