Remember these when I was a kid, thought they were very cool back in the day.
Looks to be an easy restorer and needs a good home.

Thats a YZ125C;... YZ125X Were Yellow in colour and had air cannisters (tacho + speedo) on top the Forks
-
Didn't the X have accumulators on the top of the forks ? and still came down under as US yellow ?
C maybe ?
-
I always thought the "X" was the transition to white in Australia ? ???
But I am no guru for this period.
-
The very first proper motocrosser I rode as an impressionable teenager was a YZ125X. It was yellow, had a monoshock and had the canisters on the top of the forks.
Scared the living shite out of me .. but I loved it. So much so I sold my XL70 Honda and convinced my parents to purchase a CR125 Elsinore. That Cr was not the bike the YZ was I can tell you that .. but that's another story.

i have an 125x just a quick look at the one on gumtree its not an x
forks are wrong x have air canisters and blade bottoms
all x are yellow
rear sprocket is dished x is streight
thats from looking quickly at the pics

Nice bike. I remember an article comparing the RMS, CR and the YZ. I think the RM had the suspension and was lighter, the YZ had the engine mainly as it was 6 speed but was a bit heavy and the CR had a good engine but was nowhere near the others for handling. It was still cheaper to hop up the Suzi than try to par weight from the Yam. Pretty sure that was the wash up :-\
-
yep, definately a YZ125C but it don't take all that much to upspec'm a touch.
i reckon the price is pretty good for the condition of the bike... ;)
-
Definitely a "C" then, - Thanks Fellas.
I imagine the "X" would be a rare bike these days.
I saw a YZ125C (white model !) in action back around 77, and is probably what got me hooked on dirt bikes ever since.
As Simo mentioned, bloody fast bike I thought.
Did they have CDI ignition or points ?
I bought a YZ80D around this time, and think it had points. I was to small for a 125.
-
CDI, brought one brand new $929 back in the day, they were a good thing.

Nice bikes Ian and Chip. 8)
I see what they mean by the different forks and canisters/reservoirs compared to the "C".
Really like the shape of those old tin beer can mufflers.
-
The 125x was also in the euro white and red but only sold in Europe .

YZ125X was the first Yamaha I owned at 18, I still have it in the shed.
