Back in the late 90's I ran VP C12 race fuel in my Maicos with some success and noticeable power increase and crispness. Can I legally run it today in this environmentally sensitive climate? If I can use it can I still use my preferred Motul 800 oil @ 40:1?

If it contains Benzine or one of its derivatives most likely not Mark. You got to think of all the Yella bellied sap sucking hairy nosed cane toads you may be turning sterile. Still who has ever been squeezed about fuels in classic/vintage racing?( Speedway excluded)
40 to 1 Motul 800 sounds pretty good and safe mix to me. cheers Tim754

Don't know much about the VP stuff, but you can still use (and buy) BP race 100 for competition use, as long as you hold an approved governing bodies license (M.A. is one of those bodies), without looking in the rule book me thinks that vintage/classic races are also exempt from M.A.'s rules on fuel types.
Can you buy VP fuel in OZ ? If so where?

You can still by VP fuel and leaded fuel log books are no longer needed, but you most definantly will make more HP on pump PULP, for $1.60 v's $6+ a litre.

What about Low Lead 100 BP Race fuel, said to be 110 Ron, can this still be purchased at small airports like Bankstown and is this 100/130 AVGAS the same as LL 100BP Race Fuel.

I can get BP 100 from local depot, but I had to sign a stat dec stating it would only be used for competition events and I had to show my M.A. licence.

MRT performance at Rhodes will sort you out for leaded race fuel (BP100), no licence needed, 110 bucks for 20L, will sort out detonation and Pre ignition issues. The closest fuel you can get to what these bikes used to run back in the day. Contains absolutely no ethanol!!! Worth the money.

Car motors will only really make more power on race fuel if you build the motor for it - compression ratio mostly. Otherwise it's just a really expensive way to make a couple of percent more power (at best).
Don't know how this relates to real motors, but...

Most of them are pretty good. Ethanol works very good as well, all in the set up of the engine. Like any fuel you need to spend the time to get the most out of it. We did a back to back test on the dyno with 91, 98, Elf Moto 124 and a mix of pump fuels. Elf made the least followed by 91/98 and a blend made the most by 10%. Elf is $10 a litre and supposed to be the old "blue Gas" (that was used in GP's before it was banned) that allows comp ratio's higher than methanol.
