Title: 1991 CR250
Post by: tmkiwi on August 23, 2013, 09:52:44 am
A mate just purchased a 91' CR250 and was wondering if it is a carry over model from the 1990.
i.e can it be raced in pre 1990 and if not what are the differences.
He is thinking of doing the 2 stroke nationals next month.
We are pretty relaxed with the rules here in NZ.
Thanks in advance.

SexMax is only good for the Evo class in Australia - being a 2013 model, it gets bounced out of all of the VMX classes that have a cut-off date. ;)

Dunno how the Keewees do it, but in Australia the Pre-90 class is for 1989 models and older - so it needs to be a carry over of a 1989 model, not a carry over of a 1990 model.
Is there even a Pre-90 class over there?

Without doing any research:
Forks are visibly different;
Bodywork is different;
Motor is similar - no idea whether its close enough to be called a carry-over.

If the frame, swingarm and linkage were the same as the 89, then a 91 model fitted with 89 forks and bodywork, would probably be a "close enough" bike. I wouldn't take it to an Aussie title meet, but I've seen plenty of less-legal bikes being happily raced at club events without an eyebrow being raised.

Cheers Nathan.
There is a pre 90' (inclusive) race coming up.
So will see.

'90 to '91 is a lot closer, based on the minimal research I did.
If you're allowed a '90 model, then I'd say the answer is a definite "maybe"...

FWIW, a '90 model isn't a legit carry-over of the '89 - although once you swapped the plastics, it would take a very switched on scrutineer to pick the differences...

It was an idiotic soap opera star that spawned a long running winded series on this very forum dreamt up by, produced and directed by an ex porn pawn star ;D who often thinks and lives in a parallel reality  :P :P

I know for certain that an '87 250 CR motor bolts straight into a '91 CR 250 chassis.  No mods needed. I did it in 1992.

Every bolt went straight in. Even the airboot and pipe i'm pretty certain went straight on.

Suspension linkages are definitely different from 89-90...So is the swingarm...
Hope this helps...

The short answer for here in Oz would be no as there are no carry overs in this class. Same as pre 85.
As the kiwi's have a relaxed attitude towards the rules, I say run it in pre 75  :P
