Hi Everyone,
The first meeting at Bulahdelah for 2013 was a resounding success with a very large entry and the return of the Pre65s to our track. What a sight and sound the big British twins and single plus the Swedish Husqvarna and Czech Jawa’s. It was a joy to watch!
Coming up on the 7th & 8th September is the 2013 Crawford River Classic meeting with the CRC Trophy races on Saturday which includes races for the EVO,Pre85 and juniors along with the Pre65, Pre70, Pre75 and Pre78 trophy races. Sunday will see round 5 of the 2013 Heaven VMX series and round 2 of the 2013 Roy East Pre65 Classic Scrambles Series. Remember that entrants in the Roy East Pre65 Series will receive free entry for the weekend but that does not include the cost of a one event licence.
This meeting will be on the Grass track - The track has been extensively rejuvenated starting with initial work in late 2011 and completed with final refurbishment during working bees last year and returned to its original condition!!! As the track was too wet for last year’s meeting it has rested for well over 18 months. (weather can always play a part)
So download the entry form and send it into the secretary.

I'm 99% there , tracked looked perfect during the Vinduro. Lets get those pre 65 boys out there.
-
Get your entries in for this one as it looks like being BIG 8)
-
not long to go, get your entries in make it easy for Greg
-
What way u running the grass track clock wise or anti clock wise and what's the age groups cheers ek
-
A Decision on the grass track direction has not been made as a lot will depend on weather conditions.
No age groups for CRC Trophy events (Pre65, 70, 75 & 78), never has been to my knowledge. The EVO/Pre85 event on Saturday will be split into two equal groups dependent on age so the age split can only be done after entries are in.
-
that's not the answer im looking for r well
-
Hey Eric,
I might be a bit slow, but what's with the direction ??
-
Stewart,
Last time we raced on the grass track it was run anti clockwise because, and I quote "that's the way it was originally intended to be run" It was a first for me even though most people (I think) including me prefer to race clockwise.
-
I don't care what direction I'm riding that track, as long as I get a ride. Be thinking of you Pete, too bad you couldn't get the boss to see things in reasonable manner.
-
I Think The Track just flows Better Clock wise .
Longer up hills and less down hills
I think its better to be on the Gas than on the brakes ..
But Hay that just Me Cause Ktms have shit Brake ...
I
-
only goofy footers feel comfortable going anticlock,us natural footers feel weird tipping in on our backhand ;D
:P
oops wrong forum ???

Um errr ahhh how can there be more up hill than down hill we end up back at the same point :P :P :P ;)
Most important thing is to get on the grass track 8)
OK I'll shut up :-X
-
No I will say No More
I will Pull My Head In
Sorry Sorry
-
Don't be like that Dennis just pulling your leg. I got the idea in the clockwise direction the climbs are longer but less steep while the down hills are shorter but steeper so it seems to flow better.
We need you in a good mood for another Vinduro later this year ;) ;) ;) 8)
-
Hey Scrivo,
Anyone prepared to provide a W****** forecast ?
-
Don't mention the W or R word. I'm just as worried about drainage on the low area
http://www.weather-forecast.com/locations/Bulahdelah/forecasts/latest

-
What drainage ;D I could never figure out why one of ya's didn't pipe up when they were going to build a dam at Dungog,,,we could of made a fortune by sub-leasing the grass-track to the Hunter water corp.
-
Not whinging, just joking :) I absolutely dig that Grass Track and love seeing it wet 8) anything beats dust ;) heaps of different types of dirt on it, all different grades of tractability and one corner like grease, Love it. Wet is good.
A wise old man once told me, stop always pushing against the grain Michael, it is much easier to go with the flow. So,,,,Clockwise is good 8)
-
I agree clockwise is the best the track flows real nice ;)
-
Just had a looked at the wheather forcast for CRC, looks like it will be nice and sunny ;D
-
Unfortunately due to an ever worsening family health situation I can only come up for Sunday's part of the event and will have to leave the bikes at home. Pissed off? You betcha but it's the corner I now find my self painted into.
-
Dont feel bad Firko, set your sights firmly on the third leg at Canowindra. You have seven weeks. And call it doable. Add one extra push up a day, if that's your thing. I am covered in bruises(middle ear infection). but I am adding 2k's everyday to Benny Hill, just daudalling along, but getting my balance back quickly.
I think it was one of the aviation Wright brothers who said
"don't be pushed into something you are not yet ready for"
-
don't be pushed into something you are not yet ready for"
It's not me Mick...I'm as good as I've been in yonks and reasonably hot to trot, as are the bikes. It's my old mum who's not doing too well. http://forum.ozvmx.com/index.php?topic=26686.msg299041#msg299041 (http://forum.ozvmx.com/index.php?topic=26686.msg299041#msg299041) explains the situation. As her primary carer I have to make sure she gets respite care if I go away and as she's taken another health turn I've had to cancel the respite as she's too wobbly to be away in a strange place, even for the five day minimum I can get her in for.....It shits me no end but unfortunately a mans got to do what a mans got to do. I only hope I can still get to CD10 and the Nats.
-
First things first Firko, you got to do what you got to do. You can hold your head high there. You can also hold it high with the amount of help, encouragement and assistance you have given towards breathing a breath of fresh air back into the pre-65 class in the NSW Heaven club.
It is a great thing what Srivo, the committee and a few very hard working members have achieved, and I am sure that we are all grateful for their efforts and your assistance as well.
The Club has built an awesome foundation for 2014.
Good luck with mum Firko.
-
good on you firko ,im the primary carer for my other half since she had the brain tumor removed, idont ride my bike for that very reason ,but still enjoy building them ,I cope so much grief from someone in ballarat about it ,but I just carnt risk getting hurt,so good on you for looking after your mum
-
The family comes first, You have to do what you can to help them. I am going through a cancer battle with my Mum also. Mark I hope it all goes well for you and your Mum.

Does the Ballarat bloke know of your wifes health problems Paul? If he knows your situation and he's still giving you grief that's even lower than I thought he was capable of. There's something psychologically wrong with the bloke. I hope your wife can steadily improve Paul. My old mate Phil Young had almost half of his brain removed in 1978 or so after being given 6 months to live with a malignant tumor. He's still going strong 35 years later and still contributes to our sport as an entrant with his rapid Phantoms and as the most knowledgeable bloke on OSSA's in the land. We all love the old bugger.
I am going through a cancer battle with my Mum also. Mark I hope it all goes well for you and your Mum.
I hope your mum comes out the other side of treatment OK Neil. With your dad passing on and now this it's been a shitty year for you mate. My old mum's actually in pretty good health, the problem is that he's skinned both of her shins and her heal and they've become infected because of the lack of blood flow to her extremes. At 94 she can't move around too much at present and I thought she'd be OK for respite but her doctor knocked it back as she needs daily treatment putting an end to my hopes of a weekend away with the bikes and mates. I've also had to cancel attending me ex partners surprise 60th birthday party in California in a fortnight. I'm the only close family mum's got left now so it's my job to make sure she's looked after.....it's sometimes annoying because I can't get away as much as I once did but the rewards more often than not outweigh the disappointments. I'm sure you blokes know what I'm talking about.

What time does it kick off Saturday?

Dear riders and racers,
Laying fallow for the past several years, the Grass Track at the Heaven Moto Sport Complex was re-commissioned by our track technicians last week. A precise trim with a slasher, through knee high dry grass produced a well defined course on the side of the gentle undulating hills. Unlike last year when one of our alternative tracks was used as the Grass Track was under water.
2013 was however, a tad dusty in the first instance. Dust was later tamed somewhat by one of our Hydro Technicians laying down 10,000 litres of prime local spring water.
The Crawford River Classic is about trophy races, old bikes and a period Grass Track. We had all that this weekend. Over 90 entries. Pre 65, Pre 70, Pre, 75 and Pre 78 all had memorial trophies attached to them. Some races came from Queensland (Guy O'Neil and Vern Grayson) Both added colour and riding flair to the event on CZ's and Triumph Metisse. Plenty of variety in the makes. The Pre 65 Jawas (without major smoke), Twin Triumph Metisse. Mint Pursangs, Original un-molested KTM's, Husky Autos, Husky manuals back to Pre 70, More Jawas that even came into the country in the first place, Scrivo's Capra collection, a clutch of CZ most all in original trim - Jikov carbs, welded on lever perches, peasant's leather belts holding the tank in place. There was also a huge presence of Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki. Plus about 6 hybreds. Owners hedging their bets. The four stroke class was bolstered again with the addition of Hardo's fake 250 Kwaka #10. Resplendent in Kwaka green and white but with Honda 500 stamped over ever part.
Rubber band starts, up hill, into a narrowing right hander. 3rd gear straight into another right hander, tight and slippery. There was a number of slippy spots on the track that caught out some chaps who opened the throttle a bit too quick. The four stokes had some advantage on this track. Displayed when Kiwi on his TT 500 overtook a YZ 465 up hill to take the lead in the EVO Open.
Mat Kane # 28 on his EVO CR 250 fell foul of the slippy down hill wiggle in the track. Falling heavily and breaking his collar bone. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Kell #57 in the very last race of the day was involved in some close racing and go tangled up in two other bikes on the ground. Back on his feet but with a painful limp. Wish him the best too.
Overall, once the pea soup dust was settled, the racing was fast, fast fast. Approx 20 to 25 racers per grid gave us some spectacular first corner action. KTM rider Stackwell got a holeshot only to stab the rear brake in corner 1, ending up on the grass in front of 25 racers, all with first corner red mist and dust in their eyes. Said KTM rider did manage to screw himself into a tight ball and survive to race again.
It's Hi Ho time, so off to work I go. Will finish this a bit later today. Stay tuned for Mrs Hardo's pics. Thanks to the Members of the VMX Mag team who were in attendance, lending support and historic information.
Cheers Beers Pete
Back on deck from work. Greg the Montynut has supplied us with the trophy winners 2013 CRC. All deserving winners who will hold their particular memorial riders name alive and well.
The trophy presentation was held in the pink light of sunset at Buladehlah. Strong hand shakes and smiles all round. Young and old blokes were presented. We thank them for their efforts.
Predicted overnight rain was just a prediction. Nothing more that a heavy dew. Socialites were a bit harder to find the second night. Funny that. ;D
Sunday kick off. On time. No issues. Flaggies were on queue. Rubber band start was looking a bit worst for wear after the typical Period Hang Ups (rope burns on necks). Our Heavenly water truck, piloted by Noel, was supplemented by a local big bore unit. Additional 50,000 units of water was neatly deposited onto the well worn Grass Track.Dust down to MX levels. Remember were are not lawn bowlers (yet).
We were blessed with 3 ladies racing from the get go. XR 200, XR 350 and Maico 250's were the weapon of choice. The semi smooth track seemed to suit the riding style.
The juniors were progressing just so well. Young Hayden # 295 on a brilliant XR 100 was riding like a young pro. Standing up and bouncing off the Grass Track Whoops as if they weren't even there. Hayden has come such a long way this racing year. Mat, Kai, Tyrays and Sam ripped it up too at their first Grass Track event. High 5's were given all round.
Special mention to the boys from Pro Strip who arrived with their gift of a new green powder coated Complex Front Gate. Work of VMX art is an understatement. New posts are on order and once fitted will set the Complex standard.
The naughty boy fundraising jar didn't see too much $$$ input until Bruce #6 decided to pull 3rd gear wheel stands on his XR 350 in an inappropriate area. Bruce took the penalty on the chin - for a good cause too.
Ultra smooth flaggie change overs allowed us to finish ahead of time, this was due to great planning and teamwork by our committee members.
The committee would also like to thank young local - Pete Crampton # 666 for his work in completing a brilliant set of pipes and pumps, to give us hot and cold showers, toilets and spring water. His track pre was another huge bonus.
Well all in all it was another ultra memorable VMX race weekend. One we will be camp fire talking about for years to come.
We would like to that all those who participated in some why, shape or form in the weekend event.
And as a very wise President once said `ask not what your club can do for you. but what you can do for your club.'

Due to pressures beyond my control I could only attend for a few hours on Sunday but I'm really glad I did. The event flowed really well, the camaraderie was terrific and it was great to catch up with folks I hadn't seen for a while. I intended to take shitloads if photos but in the end I left that to my old traverlling partner Billy Forsyth and I settled in to some socialising. I feel more than a bit guilty that the pre 65 blokes let the club down. I'd done a lot of background work to convince some of my pre 65 mates to ride but they once again let the club down again. I feel like a real prick for promising so much and delivering so little. Let's hope they can support the final round at Canowindra. While I left the photography to Bill and his monster 400mm lens, I did manage to run off a few random pit shots..............

Wrap up done above.

The local Lions club did a great job all weekend to feed the troops including a baked dinner on Saturday evening and were very happy with the weekends proceed for a local charity 8) 8).
The Heaven Club also donated $450 to the local Bulahdelah Scouts for their district flags. The local scout unit was only started about eight months ago so they were happy to receive the extra funds as they have been working toward buying the flags and are now able to spend those funds on other supplies. It wasn't a great deal of money but was appreciated none the less and was our members pleasure to help out. :) :)
