Title: Yamaha DT2MX clutch actuator rod length and bearing size.
Post by: firko on August 13, 2013, 10:00:13 pm
I've got three different length clutch actuator rods and two different sized ball bearings. What's the correct length for the rod and OD of the ball bearing please?

tryin t think, long ago--mushroom clutch end is bigger than pushrod Firko & has a 5/16 ball between it & pushrod. Not sure of pushrod length but diameter is 1/4 by memory [6.5mm] & is a reasonable fit through the shaft so it sits pretty good against the 5/16 ball as it operates the clutch. In saying that--there's a 1/4 ball recessed into the lifter arm which sometimes gets out [on the bench] if the little punch marks wear off. for length i [if stuck for genuine bits like me] just fit it all up with a longer rod than necessary, sit lifter cover against it & measure the hap to shorten up & re-harden the end. I do a similar measuring trick when making throttle cables--solder end on lightly, fit it up, pull outer cable to seat everything, then measure the gap to the adjuster or carb top bit.
That should start the ball rolling & if my memory's up the creek hope someone puts me right. Cheers.

Thanks Morley, the ball diameter was the main thing I needed. Because I'm using a Crockett and Son Racing Specialties YZ-A replica clutch actuator, the longest of the rids I've got seems to be one that'll make the final cut. I'll run down to the bearing place this afternoon and buy a handful of 5/16 or 8mm ball bearings.

Probably best you drive down Mark, what with those dicky knees and all...

yamaha have a way of, listing things that help id sizes sometimes. have a look at yam parts through the link on our 'livewire vmx' site, go to links then down to yam parts & find your way to dt2mx. clutch mushroom ball shows a 5 at end of first numbers then a 16 as first two of second row which means 5/16 or [8mm], yam numbers can be quite helpful sometimes. Cheers. ps, i'm sure you knew all that Firko, so i won't pull the 'Mr Know It All' line haha.

I didn't know that Morley and feel free to remain Mr Know-it-all mate, it's always good to learn new stuff.

KTM are the same with p/n, if you know how to read them you can work out all sorts of things.
