Well, they're not really dead in a physical sense but they died in my world when they sold their souls for the corporate dollar with those inane Coles ads. They might not have been the greatest or most innovative bands in rock history but they were great at what they were, a fun little 'small r' rock band. I once saw a doco on Francis Rossi and after seeing his house and lifestyle I know that they didn't need the money so what the fluck possessed them to sell out so blatantly :o

It can only be money. J
-
i saw a recent doco and his words were they threw an insaine anount of money at them they couldent refuse
i still like them

The more money you have - the more you use and the more you need.
Hell, have you checked out the price of coke these days???
-
You can't deny them a decent "pension".
I doubt they'd be selling many albums these days..............
Ironically I was sitting in traffic yesterday playing "down down" quite loud (with the windows up) and the car next to me was giving the strangest looks... ;D
-
Just sad really.

Come on Firko, you wouldn't begrudge them making some good coin out of there old songs.I still dig 'em for what they were and they are still gigging I think.Ah...the fantastic late 60s and 70s.... 8)

Coke is cheaper at Coles cause the prices are down/down. ::)

Selling your soul when your twenty has it's ramifications. Selling it when your in your sixties would probably be good advice from your accountant.

Saying that, haven't Coles also got No Direction on board for advertising?
One has been going 50 years and the other 5 mins........................

l dont think anything could top this crap advertising !
Unchain my name to the GST sales melody: Cocker

COMPERE: Well another voice has joined the growing criticism of the Federal Government's 'Unchain My Heart' GST ads.
This time it's that of British rocker, Joe Cocker, who's apparently fuming that his song, which cost the Government $270,000, is being used for political gain.
Status Quo are willing participants.

OK, Status Quo are my favourite band. Bar none.
My thoughts on the Coles stuff? Who gives a toss.
If it means I can see my favourite band play in Australia again each year, it's all Good.
Are they taking the piss out of themselves? Absolutely.

Something to do with the caterpillar moustaches Ajay? ;)

I suppose when you look at it in a "taking the piss out of themselves" perspective it's kind of what we'd expect from a band that never took themselves all that seriously in the first place. Although Quo are a long way from being my favourite band, I always liked their sense of humour and party boy attitude. Alistair, do you know 'Down the Dustpipe' ;D ? The 69ers*, a legendary Sydney pub band from the early 70's used to close their show with a 20 minute version of this old Status Quo chestnut. I love it. 8)
* Most people would be forgiven for not knowing the 69ers but those who remember them talk about them in almost religious terms. At Sunbury '73 they were on immediately before that era's hottest band Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs and the 69ers gig was so good, they did two encores (including a shorter Dustpipe) and the crowd were still chanting "Sixty Niner, Sixty Niner" 10 minutes into the Aztecs gig. Have a listen to the Sunbury '73 live album and you'll hear the 69ers do the Kinks "Harry Rag" and you'll hear the "69ers" chant on one of the Aztecs tracks.

But of course I know "Down the Dustpipe". As for the '69ers, well no. I awoke as a Quo fan about mid 70s. ;D

Reminds me of an interview with Daniel Johns - Silverchair after their first song, Tomorrow went platinum or bronze or whatever, he was asked what he thought about all the cash they were making and like all solid muso's replied "Its all about the music, the money isn't important".
Ill bet he does'nt think like that anymore. ;)
