My old race tactic
Start well and work my way back into the pack ;D
-
It was only a 'non expert' race (king of the kids ;-) ). And the gearing was too tall and was bogging-down in second. I've changed the gearing and fitted a quicker action throttle, should be holeshot'ing more often now :-D
-
How did you get a holeshot that big on a 250? Were the others in a coma? ;D
-
I've holeshot'd most of my life, I use to get nailed for jump-starts at roadracing because I'm gone before anyone else starts moving. When I've drag raced, on 'pro starts' (when lights just go amber then green .4 of a second later) my reaction time was generally .400

Ask hole shot buddy he will tell you John ;D

I saw it once and he is quick out of the gate.... ;D

A big money desert race I used to do in the 90’s was a flag start with over 300 entries on the line. After the first year I noticed the Lion’s Club president who started the race Via a big flag would stare at his watch until the last 10 seconds when he would start mouthing the numbers. After that I always started as close as I could get to him on the line. When he got to three I just jumped on my bike and went. The worst start I got for the next five years was second. There is a lot of dust in desert racing.

I bought a new 82 PE and had Mr Mc Hanic give it a spruce up. he did timing, straight cored the muffler and rejetted to RM specs and it was transformed...
unfortunately he had a few dull "lads" in the workshop and one decided to kick the bike over with the flywheel puller bolted in and it destroyed the coils.
I didn't get it back until the nite before the Nowingee desert race near Hattah.
it started over a 1 KM salt flat and I got the holeshot like I couldn't believe. I was so chuffed I missed the first turn and went from 1st to last :o >:(

I think I enjoyed the holeshot in this youtube clip more than most. Probably because it was so unexpected.
