Title: Rickman DT1 on eBay.
Post by: firko on June 25, 2013, 03:38:37 pm
This is a very rare bike that'd make a great pre '70 racer if you fitted a piston port cylinder. Rickman only made 22 Yamaha DT1/2 frame kits, and 11 complete bikes so these don't turn up every week. Dave Boydstun's immaculate piston port version sold for $8000 at the last Las Vegas Classic Motorcycle Auction  http://amsracing.com/vegas_show_bikes (http://amsracing.com/vegas_show_bikes). This bike doesn't have the mag hubs or "no name' engine cases as fitted to Dave's very early version, it's fitted with Rickman Zundapp/Montesa style hubs and standard Yamaha cases but that's almost certainly how it left the factory.

This little Rickman would be a fabulous addition for the Rickman collector. Here's an extremely rare Yamaha 250 (DT-2) powered Rickman. It's one of only 32 Yamaha powered Rickman's produced from '69-72. Frame # 1997 Build date, 6/71 It's in very nice original condition and next to [impossible to obtain if looking for one. Fiberglass is close to perfect, side covers have a little wear.  Original chrome rims in nice shape. Been in a private collection for years.  Recent carb/fuel system clean. Rides nice.  Would make a very cool pit bike for the vintage races.  I'll be glad to assist with shipping for costs of travel.  Please feel free to ask questions

the head and cylinder look almost 360 note it looks like a decomp at the front of the cylinder plus the plug looks like its vertical not at the dt slant . Iain

This angle looks more DT1, The head looks like a GYT with its upright spark plug but with the pipe cutaway it could be a Jones. The head doesn't seem to be from the same engine so it could be a DT2MX with the fins cutaway for an aftermarket pipe. Whatever it is it didn't start its life in that Rickman. I'd love this this little gem on my collection.

The head to me looks to have two spark plugs as per my rt3 head one out each side at an angle and no fins on the right side to allow for the dt/rt standard pipe to clear, the barrel does look to have a decompresser cut out as well

The more I look, the more it does appear to be an RT1 motor.

Its still inspiring me to drag mine out to make a start on it what ever it is , just need a doner dt 1/2/3 closer to home than the last couple forsale , if it had the early piston port motor what age group would it fit in.

For obvious reasons the square swingarm requirement disappeared when the RT1 became eligible for pre 70 in about 1993 Dave.

Ian I have a good rickman zundap frame apart from the engine mounts already butchered out , i have the swingarm and body work but not much else , unfortunately the  wheels , forks and head set are missing they were used to build a motocross/road racer/speedway bike of the time years ago by my dads mate(Trevor Hunt who made a great many extremely well made replicas and originals of speedway and road racing frames that are still not known as his today as you couldn't pick them from the real thing) which was well before my riding time , probably need whole doner bike to make it viable all leads appreciated cheers Andrew ps thanks everyone for your eligibility replies I thought they may only be pre 75

This fellow is asking $7950 for this DT1, is it worth the money or over the Top.

Mav might be able to help out with a complete bike good for parts only though . its a 68 , square swing arm . a bit too far gone for a full restore but as a donor bike could be worth while . Iain
