Great price for a great model.....the first competitive Japanese open classer (that was easily bought by the public.)

1975 Yamaha MX400B. Super clean old dirt bike. Would make a nice vintage racer. All original parts except silencer. I have the original silencer also. Had low compression when I bought it so newly rebuilt top end with 5th over Wiseco piston. Started and warmed up a couple times but really not broken in yet. Good tires. I have an extra dent free tank if interested in that also. PRICE DROP $800 firm. Thanks

Saw one of these recently arrived from the USA with the original tank that had been stored since new, as they rode the bike with an aftermarket tank from new. Really low hour with hardly a mark on it anywhere, and original, cheap too at less than the above. They are out there still, which is great to see.

Cheers

I have always liked these since a kid as they were the biggest thing I had ever seen at the time.

First VMX bike I bought and restored when I saw the light in 1998......I sold it a couple of years ago to a mate in Whyalla.....didn't think I'd miss it but I do.....he has a "holeshot king" bike as his mates put it....they are a very pretty bike and make lots of torque and power....in 75 Yamaha where the kings, YZ125C, MX250B and the MX400B.....cheap as a bottle of "old spice" and reliable as a draft horse.

This is the guy I bought my DT2MX off last year - he's a bit off the beaten track in south-eastern Washington state, so transportation costs are a little high (it recently cost me around US$430 to get it deleivered to Long Beach), but he's a good guy to buy from and very helpful.

When I got my DT2MX picked up, this MX400 had just gone on the market for the first time - I was sorely tempted to get it added to the transport as well, but just couldn't justify the cost at the time..

Anyway - Jeff's a great guy to deal with.  I'd buy from him again..

Price dropped even further......Shame it's worth twice the asking price.

It's still there....maybe there's something we don't know ::). That's a $1500 bike any day of the week on any continent so things must be really crook in the Land of the Free. :(

Firko,

It's probably because he's a bit off the beaten track in South-East Washington State..  He's the guy I bought that DT2MX that you saw at the shippers from..

For the record for anyone thinking of buying it - it ended up costing me about US$400 to get my bike transported from Jeff's place to Long Beach.

If anyone is interested, I can put you in touch with the transport company I used..

Tony

Brad Lewis had one of these for a few years I used to borrow the forks for my YZ A at the time as they were heaps better and looked the same. His older brother sold it on him after he left it out his place a bit to long. Great bike to ride and great motor perfect pre 78 mount.

Unbelievably, this bike is still available. The seller lives in a geographically difficult location as Tony indicated above....it's the only reason I can think of for this bike not selling. I reckon the MX400b is one of the three best open classers Yamaha ever made......(prior to the YZ400F at least).
