Title: What is the best 21 inch tyre for the front of a CR250RD for dirt track (Nepean)
Post by: oldyzman on June 23, 2013, 11:38:08 am: I am just considering the Knobby by Pirelli "extra X" as it seems a bit softer than the MC5 metzler that i have been using. Or should i go to a modern road trail.

Works well for me on a loose surface.

I have also been recommended a Kenda Millville by someone who knows a bit. This one is a soft terrain and has extra knobs on the outer edge. Post by: Graeme M on June 24, 2013, 06:32:46 am: Yes it is a soft compound tyre designed to work on hard surfaces hence the name Carlsbad which was a very hard skatey surface apparently. I find tyres an interesting question, everyone has their own idea of what works. Someone once said that a 'mud tyre' works well at Nepean but that would be a hard compound wide spaced knob.

Personally, the best tyre I have used on my YZ125 is the Motoz X-Circuit. It feels incredibly stable under brakes, hooks up in loose corners and still works well when it's dry and hard. Way better than the Dunlop MX51 I was using before that. And much better in loose conditions than the Kenda. I reckon the Carlsbad would be good on an oiled dirt surface but I don't rate it in loose stuff...

But that's just me and I've not tried many others.

These tyres are made for flat track and it should work a treat, the 21" version doesn't come along very often. I never got around to having it shipped from the seller so it's still at his place. if you want it I'll take what it owes me.... $60 + shipping from Steve.

Post by: hagon_84 on June 24, 2013, 03:31:50 pm: i run a kenda millville sticky as suggested by another forum member a while back it has been great hooks up well even on hard slick surface (deco track) yet to try it on loose oil track but should be sweet as from memory it was $115

Would seem the carlsbad is a softer compound than the milville...
