Steve Gall phoned me today for 20 minutes, seems like there is a few former Stars looking to get back to their roots.
Flattrack / Dirttrack certainly owes Troy Bayliss a debt of gratitude for his efforts for the sport.
-
Firkos efforts are also to be congratulated as his comments have been well received by influential people.

Let's hope those that can get busy and build on this groundswell of opinion. Not only is vintage dirt track on a bit of roll, but so too is dirt track in general.
I wrote to Transmoto a while back to encourage them to cover some dirt track and while Wigan was sympathetic, he reckoned he needed clubs/promoters to send in the info for them to run it. But I still reckon a feature about dirt track would be something they could do. After all, the various mags seem happy to run article after article about enduro/offroad and MX, featuring pro's bikes, project bikes, tips and techniques and all sorts of similar stuff that no promoter ever sent them.
I reckon I might shoot off another email and suggest they feature one of the top guns, or even an article about a current star's bike, just to show how these things are set up. Geez, they've done features on trials bikes and stuff, so how hard could it be? Imagine an article about Kirkness and his bike with a few pics of him backing it in somewhere?
Anyways, sorry to highjack the thread, but I agree there is an opportunity there to start pushing a sport that has been in the doldrums for too long. Hope we see a big rollup for the vintage titles at Temora!

I am looking forward to inviting all the Editors and Testers from the major OZ Motorcycle Press to ride the twins unfortunately this day will be several months away but it will be enough in advance for this summers events.

What a shame we can't get arse's on seats at a National Title level, on both sides of the fence.
Hopefully the injection of current & former greats in one class can help renew enthusiasm in all the current classes.
-
Gunnedah was certainly light on for numbers
-
I reckon the oiled surface had a fair bit to do with that, hopefully the Classic titles on a similar oiled track get a good turn out.
-
Its gotta be oiled, and loose.

Just like Griffith.

Or Action Park.

i talk to him at go karts

Troy has put a lot of effort into getting people back to Dirttrack
A Sport that was almost dead besides a few local strongholds
Next year will be the beginning of its resurgence and
The Troy Bayliss Classic has a lot to do with it.
I first met Troy when he was a kid at Geoff Shannon's

point taken
flat track in qld dropped off in early 2000'S
the committe intoduced an over 40's class

at most club days

Al,
was great to see a full grid of two strokes at Action Park yesterday also. Some of them doing well against the thumpers in other classes.
