Title: Viper News.

Hi all,
some good news regarding Round 5 of the Viper series which is scheduled for September 22nd 2013. This round is Vipers grass track round which was a successful day last year with all riders enjoying the natural terrain track, good weather and great atmosphere. After several discussions with the land owner as well as Frank De-Rose who looks after VCM and the Viper committee we are pleased to announce this race meeting will now be run over the Saturday 21st and the Sunday 22nd September and will include supported classes from VCM and possibly CSC.

The plan at this stage is Saturday will be sign in and open practice from approx. 1pm until 5pm, from 5pm onwards the land owner will have his yearly bonfire underway which i have been told is huge. This will make a great night / weekend for VMX riders from different clubs to meet and also be able to race the next day on the same track, this normally doesn`t  happen due to different track requirements for each club. The Saturday night will also have great food available including a spit roast and BBQ food, we will need numbers from you guys to help the land owner cater for this event and i will send this request out in a separate email soon.

The Sunday will be racing only from start to finish as we will have extra classes on the schedule for this one off event, the aim is to finish at a reasonable time on the Sunday afternoon and get everyone on their way with time to spare. The landowner has allowed us to camp at the track on the Saturday night which is a bonus as you can enjoy yourself at the bonfire and not have to drive off the property until Sunday arvo, the catering for Sunday which will include a breakfast menu as well as hot and cold food at lunch time is also being organised by the land owner. More details will be sent out as the round gets closer.

I`m sure you will agree this meeting has the potential to be a big weekend of VMX with the invitation of other Victorian VMX clubs and a variety of race bikes that some of us don`t normally see. We may even see some interstate riders come down for this event. If you need to contact me regarding this event or have any suggestions please use   [email protected]

                       Regards Peter. 9/6/2013.

More good news regarding round 5, Viper has now added a class at this event for Vinduro bikes to also have practice on the Saturday and 3 races on the Sunday. A lot of guys that ride Vinduros also compete in Viper or VCM and have asked the question about a class at this event. For those that are not members of either club can purchase 1 day memberships for this event.

                                   Peter 11/6/2013.

Yep Andy and here i was thinking to myself no probs with setting a race date late in September as CD is normally very early in September and look what happens, as you know it`s difficult to set a calendar that suits everyone.  Hope to see you at the grass track.    Peter.

I actually thought it was fantastic planning to see it didn't clash with anything significant including but not limited to, existing VCM calendar,  CSC, HEAVEN, NSW or Vic vinduro's. Excellent planning i'd have thought. :-\

Sounds great. Doublechecking, this is the Sunbury round (Near Diggers Rest)?
Will there be a modern class? (Not for me)
Will this be an interclub as per usual or do you need to be a Viper/VCM member? (I'm sure there would be a few Rovers members interested in this one but not points)
Does the owner charge for camping, or the clubs on his behalf? Quite happy to pay, just want to know.

Viper666

Maybe a comeback (For want of a better word) is on the cards?

Comeback implies there was something to comeback from!

Hi Perko,
yes this is the Sunbury round. This event will have a modern class and as per last year you need to be member of Viper or VCM to be able to race. Moderns will be capped at 30 entries and current Viper / VCM members will have first option to enter.

Camping at this event is free due to the land owner being a bike fanatic and very involved in the sport.

This meeting could possibly be your best chance of getting back on a bike Perko, i have been informed by some of your fellow racers this track will suit you down to a tee. There are no jumps.  ;D

Whilst you're laughing keep in mind 2 things, firstly CD (with all due respect) is the second biggest vintage gathering in Australia, and second this meet as you've clearly stated is the week before not on the same weekend. So I cant actually see how that could be regarded as a date clash, yes ideally the two events would be spaced further apart but unfortunately we don't live in an idealworld. Again, great planning Peter. See ya there  ;D

Sorry to go over this but I want to be sure.

Even if I don't care about points I still need to be a Viper/VCM member? No invited clubs anymore?

&

What do mean no jumps? They're the only chance I had.

I could have been world champion if all race tracks had sh*tloads of jumps & none of those bent things. (Corners, especially off camber ones)

Rookie, is the Honda bash at Broadford bigger? Might be right as it encompasses more than just VMX?

Viper666 (Maybe)

That'd be HBBB, and as previously stated this event discussed here does not clash with CD10 as it is on the weekend before. If that's too close for you then that's fine, just don't come. I'm sure it will bother few others   ;)

More great news for the September race.

I had a meeting today with Lemuel (Lemme ) Saunders he is a Remedial Sports Therapy Expert.
He is a super star therapist.
After meeting with him today,

Lemme has agreed to set his treatment tent up on the race weekend
and treat people for free for 10min.
and if they make a follow up appointment for one hour at his clinic in
South Yarra or Fitzroy North, it will be 1/2 price $50.00 instead of the $100.00 normal charge.

There is no obligation to make a follow up appointment..
He is the only therapist I've had in 25+ years that does not
treat people like cash cows.  He's happy to share his
expert knowledge and help people get rid of their pain and keep it gone.

So anyone feeling a bit second hand before or after a ride
can get treated for free.  He can do a lot in 10min.

If you do decide to see Lemme at his clinic and your medical insurance covers remedial massage you can get a rebate.

Yes, to ride the event you need to be a VIPER or VCM member. You can buy a one day membership for the meeting at a cost of $20 if you are not. This is the second year that VIPER has been an MA affiliated club and as such you need to be a club member to participate in club events. No different than any other MA affiliated club.
Cheers,
K
Title: Re: Viper News.
Post by: Viper666 on June 18, 2013, 03:04:19 pm

OK thanks.

This means you must be using a club permit & not an interclub permit, as was the one we got for Monza last year. (i.e. Invited clubs)

So even hosting clubs members, i.e. Castlemaine, will need to be Viper members or get a one day membership to ride that event? In other words you hire the track for the day?

Or is it for just when you are on private land?

Just want to clear this up so when I tell Rovers members about upcoming events I don't mislead what it will cost them.
Title: Re: Viper News.
Post by: bigk on June 18, 2013, 03:37:13 pm
It's not too hard, if you are not a VIPER or VCM member it will cost you an extra $20 on top of the entry fee for the day. No misleading anyone.

Got it.

On the entry form there is no Senior Rec class, correct?
Title: Re: Viper News.

$20 for day membership
$ for day licence
$ for entry fee
what would that add upto?
I want to make the journey hoping to ride the modern and evo class, trying to do the add up of funds :-\
Anyone know the day licence and entry costs?

Title: Re: Viper News.

All good, just see them on the entry form link
looks to be about a $250-300 for me  :-[ :D

Maybe it'll cost a hundred bucks maybe a hundred fifty, maybe two hundred.....who knows, as long as its not a kings ransom i really don't think its all that important is it :-\ Bottom line is if you cant spare 100-200 bucks then you probably cant afford to go racing for the day. If you can than keep the weekend free for an event that is looking like it'll be a fantastic event on this years calendar, a multi club event covering lots of classes and a saturday night dinner/bonfire. If that doesn't sound like a top event worthy of shelling out a few $$'s for then just dont give it another thought, simple really....... :)

Ive got an overseas trip coming up fast and casual employment at the minute Rookie, so yeah it is important. all them things need to be considered for me at the moment:-\
id race every round if it weren't for a few other important factors like young children. Will be at Yanakie 100% as im more in that direction than the north/western region and cant wait.

$60 entry, $55 for a 1 day license, $20 for a 1 day membership so worst case = $135. No senior rec class as no-one has entered for the last few rounds so we dropped it. Good in theory, seems not so in practice.

Probably pre 75 250, pre 70 open (or whatever 360 fits into on the day) and pre 85 Vinduro class. If you wanna get a good look at me just keep an eye out towards the beginning of the the races that follow any of mine!  :D and if I'm not finished by then I'll just throw on a sweep jersey until I am!  :D

How so John?

I guess it was ok once I got use to it, there was a double jump with steep up ramp & landing ramp with not much run-up and bog-hole just before it making it a little hard to clear unless you went wide on the corner before it, if a rider was following they'd then just block your run up.

There is a set 7 big whoops that was faster & smoother to take if you took them as 3 double jumps, problem was there was a big bog-hole just before the first one spoiling your run, if you couln't get the speed for the first one, you didn't really have the momentum to clear the rest.

The track has many low-lying areas where water would pool, causing a one-line path around them, with no watering system it was dusty as hell between each lake.

A couple of very short table-tops with a corner immediately after them, you have to be ready to turn as soon as you land.

Ah well it is motocross, and I guess it is a minibike track with no real straights to mention, except the start straight that is only used for the starts.

If the open-class machine gets the holeshot, just pass them through one of the lakes putting a tidal-wave over them  lol (that's what happened to me lol).

I'm glad I pre rode it (not that it will help me ;-) )

John, is this the Castlemaine track?  Although it is dry in this footage it looks good.

And Undera was ok for me, best was the all powers all in Evo race where the fast guys on the right hand side of the split start went nowhere cause the rubber did not release for them and for once I was not in the last few  ;D, pity it lasted only one lap till we were flagged in for a restart...
Title: Re: Viper News.
Post by: John Orchard on June 25, 2013, 02:51:49 pm
Yep that's the track, there is a couple of new jumps put in just before the start/finish stretch, it slows you right down coming on to the straight.

Everywhere you can see a slight bit of moisture will be a lake if it rains the day before, ah well I'll just have to ride around them so I don't get my white gear dirty  ;-)

I liked Undera, didn't like the slippery surface in the morning but it was a good for vintage machines I guess.

That would be my fault :-[,I got all excited & smacked into the bungee,I thought WTF?, why is everyone to the right of me still on the line but everyone to the left has buggered off into the first turn, then I looked down & realised the bungee was caught in my front brake cable guide, sorry guys :)

And rookie it just wasn't my thing: no jumps really, flat corners and slippery as a butchers.. Inspired me to replace my 20 year old front tire though before castlemaine !!

Hi all,
i have been contacted by Glenn Capuano from the Dandenong MCC in relation to an event they will be running on the 26th & 27th of October 2013 at Lardner Park in Warragul Victoria. The venue is a natural terrain MX track which is open and fast with no jumps, at this stage the DMCC are offering to possibly fit in 2 to 3 classes for Vintage bikes and also Vinduro bikes on the Saturday with 3-4 motos for each class. Up to Pre-90 would be the cut off and if there is enough interest shown for this event the classes will then be sorted, please note the classes will need to cover a variety of years / bikes and won`t be the same as you are normally racing in during the year. This is more of an opportunity to race at a great venue with a great club rather than compete in a strict class structure.

If you are interested to compete at this event please send an email to me    [email protected]   please let me know what year / bike you would be racing, I can then respond to the club and let them know what sort of numbers we may have.  I will be replying to the DMCC by the 12 July 2013.

                                                                             Regards Peter Gruber. 25/6/2013.

Yes I would love to race at Lardner Park which is close to Warragul, easy to get to.  Scooter News saw this venue at last year's Australian 4 Day Enduro being prepared, as it was the final moto.  The venue is HUGE with good facilities and ample level parking.  The course was on the side of a gently sloping grassy hill but we understand this event will be on the next paddock over from here near the dam, with even better spectator viewing.

It would be an excellent weekend and with both vmx and vinduro classes as well as moderns you could get plenty of riding in.  I could easily front up in a few vintage classes which would be Pre 90s, Pre 85s, Evo, Pre78 and Vinduro, and I could also chuck young Aaron Bonfadini on some of my bikes so I wouldn't have to do all those races!

They will be looking for sponsors so get in early!  We all remember Yarrive's Thumpercross Series - it would be great see something like that get off the ground again.

Hi all,
some good news regarding Round 5 of the Viper series which is scheduled for September 22nd 2013.

Hi all,
the Viper grass track event in Sunbury on the 21st & 22nd of September is shaping up to be a big meeting for us with a lot if interest shown so far. The main reason for this email is to help the landowner with numbers for the catering that is being organised for this event, if you are intending to attend the bonfire and spit roast etc. on the Saturday night of the race meeting could you please let me know how many adults / children will be attending with you. Please send me an email at    [email protected]  confirming these numbers and i can then let the landowner know what sort of numbers to cater for.

Please let me know asap as this won`t be left until the last minute as we don`t want anybody missing out.    Regards Peter Gruber.

G'day again,  just a small update on the September grass track.

I've been out on the track over the last couple of days.
It is looking great.  We have had just the right amount of rain.
The soil looks and feels plump, for want of a better word.
A couple of months ago, I tickle racked the soil then dragged a heavy leveling sled
around it and let the grass grow through.

It looks to have paid off as the track look even better than it did last year.
Can't wait. It should be a fantastic weekend.  Fingers crossed we get good weather for it.

Hi all,
below is part of an email that i received from the land owner of the Viper grass track event. The land owner and i have been discussing the grass track and all the details involved in running this event over the last few weeks, i have kept him informed of the numbers i have received so far for the Saturday night. At the moment the numbers for the Saturday night catering are not where they need to be.

I will supply final numbers for catering to the landowner at the end of this month, so please register your attendance for the Saturday night activities with me ASAP and lets get the numbers to make this part of the night a success.

Contact me on    [email protected]             Regards Peter Gruber.

We would like to give folks this last opportunity to place their name with the Viper club, if you are interested in having a 3 course dinner at the bonfire.

The price will be between $20-$25 per head (depending on numbers) for:-

Choice of Soup or Yabbies
Spit Roast
Choice of two Desserts
Tea & coffee provided.

If numbers are not high enough, we regret we will have to cancel this part of the event.

I hope we can get the numbers up as I'm sure everyone will have a great night.
The Bonfire isn't as big but I'm working on it.
If anyone has anything they would like to burn bring it along.
Please make sure it is burnable and remove all steel or glass.

Wet wood, nothing a bit of diesel spray can't fix.

Sorry guys, just a little bit of bad news for the Grass Track dinner.
The bloody Yabbies aren’t biting.
It must still be a bit too cold for them. Or they're smarter then we thought.
Normally we drop the nets in and 30min later they are full.  But this time, 3 days,  4 nets and 2 different dams and only half a dozen Yabbies.
So it’s with regret.  I have to say no Yabbies for Saturday night.
But don’t worry the food will still be sensational.

Saturday only ride fee = $25 which includes Sat. only Viper membership.

Recreation licence if you don`t already have one = $25

All others that are doing both days the cost is as follows.

Entry fee = $70.

Viper membership for the 2 days if your not already a member = $20.

Recreation licence for the Saturday practice = $25.

Race licence for the Sunday = $55.

Please take note that the licence fees are set by Motorcycle Victoria and not one cent goes to Viper from these, sorry but these are not negotiable.

Time schedule for the 2 days is as follows.

Saturday: gates open 10am, sign in from 11.30am and thru the afternoon, practice to start at 1pm until 5pm.

Bonfire and catering will take place after practice is finished and people have made their way up to the other end of the property.

Sunday:  Riders briefing at 8.30am, followed by a 10 minute session for anyone that didn`t take part on the Saturday to have a look at the track and this is to take place riding behind a track marshall so it doesn`t turn into a free for all flat out practice, 1st race underway around 9am.

Important items please take note.

Could you please make sure you have your race number clearly visible on your back so the lap scorers can identify you and score you correctly.

As per last year please do not use tear offs at this venue as the property normally has cattle grazing on it and tear offs are not on their menu.

The bonfire and catering will take place at the other end of the property, the landowner has advised that we can all drive to the bonfire and back to the pits inside his property without having to go out onto public roads. This means please take it easy to and from the pit area.

We will have flag marshalls again for this event so you will not need to do any flagging at all, we have a first aid crew there for both days.

The landowner will be running a canteen for us on the Sunday so please support him and make it known to him that all his effort is very much appreciated.

If you require any further info please send me an email to  [email protected]

Looking forward to a big VMX weekend, see you all there.  Regards Peter Gruber.

hi all thanks to everyone involved ,well done Peter for the idea of putting this event on .
what a fun track fast with no speed humps or clay to be seen.
here's some footage of second race pre 85 250s. I got a bit out of shape at the start of the main straight all though it isn't so obvious in the video ,henry said it was a good save ,it was a better out come then his were he decided to take a rest .
Chris and I had a bit of a bump and ended with a photo finish almost needed ,he did win it .

That is hilarious footage arno, Henry rode that sucker into the ground, his hands never left the bars even when he was sprawled out!! I saw him take his goggles off over the finish line in another race and he slipped over with only his throttle hand on the bike lol. I hated the morning track, loved the afternoon.
Big thanks to P.Gruber for the coaching on my starts: worked a treat in the final evo race!

hi all more to come of pre 78 race

my 84 250 was lacking top end already on the Saturday it was only noticeable on main straight as it has heaps of low down power ,
before the weekend I tried doing squish band for the first time, machined about half a mm of surface of head using solder to make measurements but didn't realise you had to take some material from the inside of dome in head. So I thought comp was to high making it loose top end.
Just removed head and noticed power valve was in a strange position and was loose. there's a nut on the end of valve which has to be watched as it comes loose even with a new std nut on it .
Shame I didn't check on weekend

cheers arno

G’day all, what a great weekend.  Laine and I would like to thank everybody for their support and kind words.  Many thanks also to all who helped make the weekend a success.

Laine and Bazza (my father) did a mountain of work leading up to

the Saturday night do and without their help, I just couldn’t do it, so I’m very thankful for their help.

Sunday, Laine and Tracey in the canteen were put to the test and I think they did a great job.

Shanno and Russell also worked hard to make things run well.

We were running a little behind at first but I think it all went well in the end and will only improve now we have an idea on what to expect from the "big meets".

If someone could please pass on our thanks to the lovely Kim for stepping up and helping when things got busy we would appreciate it.

Thanks Mark,  I can't believe how many great photos were taken and Arno's videos. Very cool.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing more as they go online.

I'm still on a bit of a high after the weekend and seeing how well Pete and all those involved did an amazing job organising the schedule and getting through the day with no real problems.
