I can only guess sometimes this guy gets that sort of money , he would never get it from me thou ,even if it was mint it would be slightly over priced right now

Mark, on the desirable meter 1 to 10 where would this sit fully restored, considering a 1981 Maico 490 sits at say 6. Give it's ranking not on competitiveness but on rarity, exoticness and racing credibility.
I have only ever seen one before. Didn't Lester Rowley ride one in the early MR MOTOCROSS series?
How much $ do you think it would take to get it back to its glory days?
How many of these are there out there ( OZ ) fully restored?

I know of 1. A genuine 1973 CCM. A mate of mine had it and sold it to some collector in Sydney for 19K..... That was without the original front hub. I also know of a 77 CCM that was sold here in Vic for 15K.
If I had the pingers at the minute, it would find it's way into my shed without a doubt

If a pristine 490 Maico is 6 in the collectability scale, I's put a '74 CCM at 8. I reckon a good price for a perfect and original '74 CCM would be in the 12-15k range. Jonesy's got a '74 that he raced in the early VMX days which is now sadly in need of a freshen up. I've ridden it a few times and even though I'm not a BSA guy, have to admit that the CCM is a really, really good pre '75 race bike, the equal of any 440 Maico or 400 Husky for performance and at the top for handling and finish. The CCM is a cool bike but I'd guess that the one for sale needs a minimum of 3k spent on it to get it pristine.

To me the 74 CCM is the best by a long way
Especially if you had Stan Millard build the engine.

To rebuild a BSA B50 or CCM engine, which are the same, to do it properly you would be looking at $2500 to $3000 for the engine only.

Have a 73 CCM in reasonable nick. Paid 5k. Had been converted to a sounds of single racer with a disc brake front end and shocks laid fwd at 45 degrees into inch square pipe welded to the rear sub section. Frame stripped, polished nickel removed, re heat treated and re nickelled 3.5k. Engine rebuild by reputable engine builder 3.8k. Refurbish wheels, stainless spokes, new rims 2pack hubs was 1.5k at Titmans. New exhaust from stainless 1k. Add new forks, shocks,chains, guards and reprint tank3k. All up around 18k outlayed. Would it fetch that at the moment, probably not. 100 per cent original it not, pretty reasonable looking bike, I reckon so. Ask Firko for a fair appraisal of how she presents . In the end I don't worry, it's not for sale and is a joy every time I went past it. Never rode one back in the day. Only saw Lester once or twice. My passion for a big banger was watching Ron Sisley in the Gembrook State Forest. Power lines. Two young lads on Suzy cyclones 400 giving an older bloke a bit of grief over his oil leaking heavy British lump of mild steel, BSA B50. Well the drag race up the road saw Ron shower them in road gravel shit and he enjoyed looking back as he put it into a big slide to round the corner. Probably helped he was a real handy motocrosser and them trailie boys, but shit it was a great welcome to the big times boys

Yep, to do a schmick job on the motor is easily a $2500 exercise. A standard B50 motor can be made into a CCM but figure another 2500 for a 3 speed 'box then who knows how much for engine cases etc....
If your half handy with a bender (or know someone) and can bronze weld, it's not too hard to turn a B50 frame into a replica '74 CCM frame. It won't have the same monetary value as a CCM, but who cares if you get the bike you want.
For me, my B50 does everything a CCM will do but at a fraction of the cost....Still love a '74 CCM though
