Title: John Tate in hospital.
Post by: 09.0 on May 22, 2013, 11:51:41 am: For those that don't know, while doing work out at Biddaddaba on Sunday, John went and got spat of his bike after hitting a hidden rock fracturing his pelvis.
He is now in a condition to see visitors. He is in the P.A.
Poor bastard :-[

Hope the repairs work out for you John, getting replacement parts can be hard to find for some obscure models, don't get fussed about finding NOS, decent replica's will get you back on the track.

Could have been worse...

Joan's one of the characters that make our sport such an interesting place, doing a lot of good things for the sport behind the scenes ranging from making trick parts for your vintage bike through to committee work with QVMX. He's in good spirits, even if still a little groggy. Looks like he'll be there for another couple of weeks though.

He's done some pretty serious damage, and is up for at least one operation to repair his pelvis..

As for hassling the ###### out of forum followers - he doesn't have a laptop yet, although I hear one is coming! Be afraid gentlemen, be very afraid... ::)

Trevor Anthony of the Vic sidecar dynasty also has damaged his pelvis whilst crashing in SA at an ASA meet.
Trevor has had some blood clotting issues and has just come out of ICU. He is being air lifted back to Vic to recover.

Poor buggers in traction as they have to straighten /alighn his Femur before they can repair his hip. Typical Joan though he was in good spirits and more concerned about other peoples bikes in his shop for repair .

Sounds like he has had a good stream of visitors and well wishers , hes got a laptop thanks to a friend and should be online soon .

If your local call in to the QA and see John :)

We had been working all day pulling up big rocks, towing around the new club plough to flatten out what ruts and bumps we could. D/c found another rock but was to late by then,He will be missed at the track but be shure once he is up and about he will have a front row seat over looking everything ! He wants plenty of pics from this weekend from anyone taking a camera . ;D

He hanging out for a plate of chips , so if your visiting him forget the grapes and take him some fish and chips ;D
After fighting it i have given in and got on the facebook thing ::) iv'e told joan and suggested he signs up as as much as i hate to admit it , i thin if your stuck on your back recovering it would be a great assett :)

Joans got a long recovery ahead and as we all know hes a very social bugger so keep in touch with him and dont forget the chips ;)

He's a lucky lad that his hip took the full brunt of the hit and he/we have a spinal column has that bone structure for support and protection of the spinal cord.

Doing what he does best. Talking! He could do it under water with a mouth full of marbles :D
So he pushed his left leg up through his pelvis, cracked the other side and in the middle, two cracked vertebrae and done something like cracked his shoulder too. Seems he has the same philosophy as in his work, when he does it, he does it well! That's a good 18 months rest from riding.

They've got him up walking around with a Nanna frame and while he's in a fair bit of pain, I think he's pretty grateful that the results of the accident weren't worse and that he can still walk. I hope you're up and at 'em soon Joanie.

I'm feelng alot better now, my left pelvis is screwed together with a titainiun plate, my cracked right pelvis, cracked L2/3/4 and cracked right shoulder will heel normally. I'm not driving the nurses nuts yet and they are looking after me really well. Everyones been great. Hopefully I'll be out in a few weeks....I was walking on some crutches today, anyway I'll keep you all posted....btw....they have some great drugs in here....those green sticks the ambos have are useless. Cheers.

We understand it was a nasty fall so it's really great to hear your injuries, as bad as they are, weren't worse.

How long before you're out of the hospital? And how much longer after that before you expect to be operating normally (working, riding etc)?

I broke both Femur’s when I was 18, twas 3 months before I could put weight on them again.
I was working on my bike from a wheelchair during that 3 month period.

Doctors gave me another 6 weeks to learn how to walk again before I had to go back to work. I mostly waddled.
Took about 3 weeks before I found the strength to kick start my bike and go for a ride, a ride which I had to keep secret from my employer and my Mum.

"wifes orders" problem is numb and tingling in lower legs ,left arm and left side of face.so until that goes Im not allowed to ride or race. taking girls to trail ride this Sat will just have to sit it out . :(
