Title: 1988 YZ forks. Any good?
Post by: Nathan S on May 17, 2013, 04:16:40 pm
I've never ridden one.
The tests of the day say "not harsh like the 87 model YZs", but don't really say what they're like.

So... Anyone know if they're any good? I am a big fan of the '88 KX forks (which are also 43mm Kayaba cartridge forks), but that doesn't mean that the Yammie versions are the same inside.

As a secondary question, does anyone know if they have the weird inverted shims like an '88 KX?

Define good ? The 250 forks where good in the day, same league as the 86/87 Honda 250 Showa's I believe.....but compare them to a modern set of forks (your Beta for example) and their not real flash.

Comprable to the 87 CR forks is good enough.  ;)

Cheers.

The 88 YZ forks are not as good as the 87 Honda's, as they only have check valves. The Honda's had pistons.
