How much do you want to spend?
-
Well Lozza,
The medium size lathe at Hafco its a AL330... or something 40mm spindle bore size is approx $2800 incl stand and 3 and 4 jaw chucks. Basic tools on top of that say $3200. It would seem that S/H i can probably get it for half that. or i could go a fair bit smaller like a ML7 or a schoolies HERCUS for approx $1200 or less if i get lucky.
Neither are really big enough though, but the thing is I dont want to take up too much of a footprint either. A mate just picked one up for $300, i have not seen it yet...
Would love to get a S/H Japanese unit from the 80's...

Brett ... I spent about 4 months looking at secound hand lathes for less than a grand and came to the conclusionthey where like the bikes I own tired and worn out ;)
Hafco have sales on in June and late November. I picked up a AL -335 for $2992-00 on a stand with 3 & 4 jaw chucks with a bonus basic tooling set and haven't looked back.
Good luck.

Hi Brett, no doubt one of the handiest and most exciting VMX workshop tools one can own.
A good operator can do more tricks on a Center lathe than a monkey can do on a hundred foot of vine.
Do you have a formal background or education as a machinist or turner?
None of my bees waxs of course, but If you dont? I would be happy to give you a few basic safety tips that may well save your life.

Jimmy.....surely you didn't? That's a first year apprentice fluck up. Naughty Jim ::).

Gday Mick D,
I am a fitter and turner, been on and off the tools over the years. I do really appreciate the offer though as a lathe can be a great tool, but they can bite sometimes and worse....
