Steve, the latest reference to the Victorian Longtack Titles I can find is 2003 when John Jorgensen, Jason Stewart and Louis Meyers finished in that order, a check with MVIC should help, I can't find where they were held, but suspect it may have been Wangaratta.

As far as track length, due to MA meddling with the GCRS, there is no such thing any more as Longtrack or Shorttrack, simply just Track.

In my humble opinion, any track length under 800m, ie a Halfmile, is not Longtrack. Having said that any Track meeting on a 600m track , a third of a mile or so like the old Sydney and Melbourne Showgrounds, is the next best thing.

Longtrack, to me is a sport where high speed, power and the size of the rider's ticker counts, whereas the shorter versions are so much more reflex and reaction time focused.
Good luck, I'd like to see it happen, where ever.

Just my two bobs worth !!

Sounds like a great idea! Firko has been chomping at the bit to run a Flat track type class, be an opportunity to run our big bikes on a big track.

My favourite video, that I watch from time to time, is the 2005 World Longtrack final round , held in NZ on a 1000 meter track, the battle in the A final, between Gerd Riss and Kelvin Tatum, was almost a high speed WW3 and oh, yeah, an Aussie won the B final, a fella called Jason Crump.

800m to 1000m was the usual specs for world longtrack.
Check out the 1984 world final when Peter Collins passes
Egon Muller. Talk about big kahuna's.    regards   Mark
ps. Seymour had a great longtrack but its rooted now. Shame

Thanks Foss its a piss cutter. Do you or know anyone who has a copy of the 1989 aussie long track gp at bathust with wigg. Very fast racing and the most exciting track event I have seen. I have the 1990  event but have been looking for the 1989 &1991 events for years. Ricky days caric video did the events, I spoke to Ricky a few years back and he did not have a copy.

I'll see what I can find, Hoony. I was talking to Kevin McDonald yesterday, will ring him again in the next day or two and ask if he knows of any footage from '89.

Any way, let's hope Steve and the club can get something happening as far as the Vic Longtrack Titles go, it'll be great to see some proper Longtrack action south of the border.

Kevin told me that the Blayney Longtrack, on a Halfmile trotting track, is a goer for the first weekend in November, so we're looking forward to that.

I heard a whisper the other day that they may converting the broadford speedway / flat track to be a long track as well, by putting a straight through where the dog leg is. Just had a look at google earth it would not be a perfect oval and they would have to move the speedway control tower.

Kwakatriple the dirttrack at b/ford was a longtrack (no dogleg) when first built but was not used as such so mv decided to bring the fence to where it is now and wont be put back in the near future.
