Can some please tell me the classes and a bit of info on this event. I would like to come over and have another ride on my bike and thought this would be the place to do it.
-
See you there cuzzy bro!
Check the QVMX website DJ, there's a link on the home page.
They have put up info about the meet. I have to attend a wedding in FNQ in August. I'm riding Conondale, Proserpine the following weekend then going to the the wedding (in a kilt!) then home.
The two race meetings allow me to salvage something out of the trip.

Hey DJ would be good to have you along, the meeting is for all classes up to pre 85 and is a two day format. Same as last year. plenty of morning practice on Saturday plus one round racing, Sunday has another round of racing and the theme racing in the afternoon, (brand racing state v state or in your case country v country ;D) can camp if you like great setting new a creek and plenty of people do this or if you like motels only 15 mins down road.
PM Me if you need more info as I will be on this years commitee for the meeting, I am also a sponsor for the event.

it'll be a good one DJ and damn near perfect for your little Noguci.
i did it last year on the little MX. it was a tad rough for the pre75 crowd but plenty of nice grassy straights to run the bikes up through the gears made up for it.last year ran pre75125s with the pre78 125s and was a small grid but fun all the same.
-
I love the cool tunnel.
-
Sounds good Vandy, I like the idea of pre75 and pre78 running together to have a bigger grid. I assume I need a day licience for this event and where is Connondale? What road is it on? I better look on the site for all the info. Do I need to bring some more rain with me ;) ;D
Tunnel, what tunnel, I have heard of the big jump on the track (the name of it I cant remember though).
-
DJ, Connondale isn't too far from the 'Glasshouse Mountains' and 'Australia Zoo' on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland if you'd like to find those on a tourist map or website. That'll give you a general idea of the whereabouts.
Oh, and the Glasshouse Mountains were not named so by Australians, OK?
They look nothing like the Kiwi mountains you'd be familiar with - more like enormous spikes made of rock.
I mention this coz I met a Kiwi who got all uppity about them being labelled as 'Mountains'.
I believe it was Captain Cook so pls keep that in mind...
-
Nice QVMX website. easy to navigate 8)
for the west coast folks, flights from perth to brizzie are $588 return.(virgin blue)
-
It's about 1 1/2 hours drive north of Nudgee. Track is very friendly to both rider and bike , set up is very similar to CD5 with onsite catering - hot showers - room for camping . see you there Bro
-
Oldfart cuzzie bro, I'll bring the Number 8 wire and we'll go huhu grub hunting and down some Tui's
Do I need to become a member of QVMX to race or is a day licence ok?
Wombat, Karen thanks you for the info on the Zoo, I think she will go there for the day rather than the races.... Fknoses why.....seen a croc seen them all..... but bikes never look the same ;D
VMX247, I looked up flights from here and for the 2 of us return $850 from the east island.
-
DJ Racing,I reckon they must be turning those engines off and gliddin over to Oz,saving fuel cost's.That is so cheap :o
It would cost $1764 for us 3 return to brisbane, thats no accomodation etc
I've also heard that is cheaper to go to Malayasia for a holiday & watch Casey Stoner & co race, included is pit pass..than going to Phillip Is in Vic.
-
Here's a few pics of the conondale track from Rd3 of the OzMX champs. DJ by Aug we will want the rain.
-
Another OZMX 08
-
One more.

-
hey vmx247, let's remember W.A. is a great place to live - miles from anywhere but it lacks for nuthin'!
I lived there for three years and I love the place. I can't think of a downside.
Quality sand, great all year round temperature, lots of sand, good drainage, sandy beaches and it's a short drive to the sandy expanses east of the populated areas for that much needed getaway. ;)
-
what big jump?
http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/990185/
-
Nice vandy where you in the air that long you had to sit down again ???.
-
3rd gear tapped Hilly, hit the ramp sitting down and landed that way. it took a few goes to get it sorted but when you get that jump right the landing is real smooth. the earlier attemps weren't so cruisy
-
I haven't ridden Connondale since the dreamtime of 1979 but I well remember a huge and scary jump different to the one Vandy's posted.
From memory it went up a long hill at maybe a 30 degree angle and the other side dropped away even sharper, maybe 45 degrees. After launch, the 'air' time seemed to last several seconds and the drop seemed vertical.
This photo is taken at the same spot as Vandy's photo but looking further around to the left.
Disregard the rooster in focus and check out the hills in the background.
It was up there the massive jump was located; does anyone remember it?
Is it still in use?
-
Drunks hill is quite steep ......in the right gear and line it's a piece of piss
-
Dont worry wombat I dont think we will go over that one, we go around it...
-
yeah..oldfart, unfortunately to find the right gear and approach require 2 or 3 heart stoppers! :o
It is a lovely track and venue though and lookin' fwd to it.
-
well guys, all will be revealed soon, preperations are well underway for the classic and yes it is a great jump even on the older bikes, all you have to do is punch it and hang on. the event will run the same as last year with maybe a few changes to the novelity events( make them more exciting if that is possible) . Cheers Trev
-
There was a bit of contraversy last year with the relay race as there was "alegedly" a late model single shock bike on one of the teams. Or was it that one of my Corte Cosso's unscrewed between the shaft and bottom mount :-\ . Hey Wombat are you maybe thinking about when you go up the start straight and when you used to go right to the top (circa late 70's) , over the top and down the other side. I think you jumped down the hill. I never saw the track like that as im not THAT old :D . But have been told by some tribal elders about it.
-
Tribal elders..ha ha. You sure you're not that old brad? Yeah that drop-off at the top of the hill in the old days was pretty hairy, like dropping down a mine shaft. The track at the Aussie titles a couple of weeks ago was awesome, using a fair bit of the hill up and down the side of it just like we did in the old days. Would be great to have a similar track for the classic.
-
Brad
This may be the jump you mean it went off the hill & down into the berm we now use to go up.
Noel
-
the track will be unreal this year will keep everyone posted as we get close
we will try to make it pre75 to pre85 friendly
hopefully i will set out track this year again
so i will try and make it flow well with no stop and starts ;D
heres a piccy of magoo going over drunks hill jump :o
i think he missed a gear ;D
-
Not as spectacular as the year before on drunks hill. I don't think I missed a gear, just the horrible 450 memories flooding back.
-
Don't see any waved yellow flags - just like the year you sailed into hell on the other side of the hill!
No torn jersey so haven't crashed, and the wheels touching down on this side of the crest so you're playing a bit too safe, not like you Magoo, you might be in need of a XXXX or even a Red Bull.
Planning on heading up there this year, so hopefully the track will have some good pre 75 lines for my old Bully.
-
Ballard’s Yamaha Off-Road Team continued its dominance in Australian off-road racing today when Chris Hollis and Jarrod Bewley smoked a 220-strong field at the third round of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship.
It was a case of déjà vu at Conondale (QLD) today when Chris Hollis and Jarrod Bewley repeated their results from the first and second rounds –Hollis finishing first in the Outright and Yamaha Championship E2 Class standings and teammate Bewley coming second.
So I'm correct in that this track is used for all MX ??? ??? ???
Thanks 4 your answer in advance.
-
Yes mate all types of racing it is run by the Sunshine coast club and has enduro loops that feed from the MX track into some pretty full on mountains around, holds arounds of the Australian MX championships and state level racing for modern and vintage racing. One stop shop you might call it!! ;D
-
BultacoMacca, it's a nice really place and pre'75 friendly. I'll be going pre'75 as well and while I've only actually ridden there once which incidently was that fabled day in history when Magoo did his silver dream racer impersonation right across the finish line..wow! Awesome stuff!!..the race was nowhere near finished but it appears Magoo couldn't wait to show his amazing talents! :o I think Oldfart may have witnessed this display and tried to pull off something similar at the Coffs Nats..Oldfart had the right lap to do it on but he couldn't wait any longer and went off prematurely the last jump just before the finish! In both instances everyone was watching :P I seem to always crash quietly away from veiw and no-one ever witnesses a thing ;D
'if' the weather is anything like today better bring some woolies of a good sized bottle of Johnny..the track is located in a valley or mountainous terrain which has the sun go down early and rise a bit late. Yes it can and probably will be cold at night ;)
-
Someone said we had to wait till after the classic to get Nationals info, but some over here in the west just can't wait...would love more photos
cheers 09 roadcrew.
-
Is it only me or is there other riders wondering why things have to change ,the first conodale vmx meeting was a success 3 rounds plenty of races for all, then some one desided to make it 2 rounds and practise on sunday when its time to hit the road.I don't under stand, is it a majority that wants this or a minority that was there to organise it ,I do understand that you first have to have some one with an idea and helpers to carry it out ,but I dont understand how many riders want to practise after they have been racing for two days.and no 4 stroke class. 06 condale was unreal
-
tony
i have to reply to your funny conclusion, at no time have you consider that the races were changed from 3 lap to 5 lap races which gave everybody more race time, our club is based on having some fun and to avoid injuries the practice aspect is where everyone gets an hour of free ride time works, as for last year i stuck my hand in the air to take over when NO ONE else would (guess you werent about) or at that meeting, but hey come on board and give it a go and you face the so called experts who have an oppinion about what should happen or not without getting off their ass and making a committment to the club or even turning up at meetings, or for that matter walking up to a committee memmber on a race day and say hey can we do this or this . i guess you dont have any idea of the work load we VOLEENTEERS provide. so what a gutless way to make a point. think i am upset by your attidute, bloody oath.

-
Trev, I would rather see more racing, at least 3 rounds. It's spread over 2 days, 1 round each day is not a lot of racing.
-
Trev congrats on taking up running the event :) i too have organised many events over the years and no matter how hard you try you wont please every forker ::)
Its a fair hike from Unzud but me and the boys cant wait ;D 2 races per class of longer duration suits me fine :)
I dont think anybody was being negative about the event just expressing views ,
Hey if you wanna ride more bring more bikes it aint hard ::)
Mate the event will be a Ripper and well done for putting your hand up :) see you there Bill :)
-
i am happy to take anything on board, i just dont like people bagging an event that takes 4 months of work to put in place by a large number of people. i forgot to add tony i was in a spinal brace last year, but still gave my time to the club to help with the event and yes we tried something different. heavens above how dare we . i will calm down soon i guess. But hey i am attending a final meeting for the event tomorrow for the Classic and to start things moving for the Nationals 2009. and for you maico i will disscus your thoughts, but what ever happens it will be decided tommorrow night whether tony comes or not.
Cheers Trev
-
Thanks Bill
looking forward to a few beers with you fellows, hows that NZ team going?
Trev
-
Trev i appreciate the amount of work guys like you put into running an event, without you it wouldn't happen. Like Bill said just expressing an opinion on what we prefer, can't please everyone i know and with the amount of riders and classes i guess time is always a factor.

VMX247 I have posted some pictures of Conondale that I took last year, just got the new camera, some of the photos should give you some indication as to what the track is like. I can only compare it with Narrogin we were there a couple of years ago for the Nats. The track is a lot more open, its good grazing country up here, so the track is a loamy clay soil with sections of grass areas, as you have already been told it has a table top, its a good track, if you like Narrogin you'll love Conondale...

Pokey you going to Connondale :)
-
sorry trev If I have rattled the cage to harshly, firstly I if you put yourself in the hot seat you should be able to cope with some so called oppions,I appreciate all the effort that you and all the commity put in ,what is the club without it .If you are able to help build a successfull club during your current commitments thats great , but remember there was many before you and many more to come, I have helped clubs in the past and will do so in the future like alot of our club members have or may in the future .So trev this is not having ago at anyone but it is my oppion that the current program is not quite right ,the first year was great (IN MY OPPION)so am I not allowed to have a say , do I have to go to the meetings to do so.You are doing a great job it shows, the events are getting more and more popular and remember it is only an oppion.Dont take affence.
cheer's see you at connodale.
ps how many entries do you need to run pre 70
sorry to here about the back brace reality its home we compete in a dangerous sport fingers crossed(hows my spelling)
-
Love to get my arse to connondale this year Bill but will not be riding yet , Yeah I know im a slack arse.
Try juggling a job and an insatiable woman and all that beer they keep making.. Okay i fibbed. Its me that insatiable. ;D
If all goes to plan i will have the girl moved down and my bikes moved up within 6 weeks and shall catch up with you guys at connondale .
-
in answer to your ? Tony, pre 70 is allways included and was never left out but as in 2006 with only 4 nominated riders for that class and a grid that takes forty bikes with a field of 180 competitors, its a bit unfair to watch 4 bikes doing 5 laps, isnt it better to grid you guys up to pre 75 and make a grid of 20 riders in 263 to 1300cc class, and as allways through out this year a four stroke class has run depending on numbers and as allways you can class yourself on the day and if the numbers are there, why not as i allways say. so every year is based around what fits for the majority, the only problem i have is its taken this long for your opinion to come out and it only takes a ph call to someone to get your thoughts on the table
Cheers Trev

Thanks jackiemac, have saved the photos in my favorites.
I was at the WA Nationlas, did my volunteer bit as Chief Flag Mashall/screaming like a banchie to get flaggies out on the track as some riders hadn't supplied a flaggie for the roster.
Bush fires etc are good for this job on a big event.
As worms and people before him have said, its hard yakkie running such a big event.
Running grades together is a good idea it makes up a larger field.People(flaggies/spectators) don't get bored with it also.It can make a real long drawn out day watching 4 bikes rolling around the track.
Having such a big field of class's is even harder work ie evo/pre78/pre79 etc etc, unpaid workers are fanbloodytastic for running such events like this. Its up to the organizers/clubs/officals/sup regs to cut class's or laps. Can't wait to see how its done other than moderns at home in WA. :)

Trev why do you get offside , all I asked for is how many pre 70 entries required to make a class ?.as time gets on the older classes are harder to keep going so I ask you again how many pre 70 's are required so I can see who is taking there pre 70.The reason why is because there is only 2 races per bike for two days of racing,so if you have pre 75 & pre 70 you can have 4 races (if there are more than enough so you wont have to watch 4 old bikes going around). I guess at the end of the day if we dont try to keep the older classes going they will fade ,the pray mantis machines will naturaly continue to grow , not that it is a problem but we(classic machines) enjoy going to qvmx for the natural terrain.
The 4 stroke class, does that mean that it requires the same criteria, is that what you are saying.
Tony
-
sorry trev I forgot to answer why now to ask the question about only two races over two days ,you no when you get up and think I SHOULD DO SOMTHING ABOUT IT well I got up the other day and thought to my self if you dont asked the question you dont find out and you now what it looks like I should not have bother it reminds me of being back at school, so when should I ask the question , If its only me than nothing will change or if there are others who want more racing than maybe next time the club can look at it.So trev I have got in early for next time.
-
all good things come to those who ask, the classic will try and fit three rounds in this year, maybe 4 lap races instead of 5 with maybe a changed track for all pre 75 down bikes, that will be decided at track setup. we will still do practice sessions, what time frame i am unsure till we see nominations. grid numbers for Conondale need to be 12 but this also depends on the number of grids we need to run. and yes the four stroke has been well supported this year and gets treated the same as all other classes if their is enough for a stand alone race, why not but it still comes back to numbers. Tony these decision are that of the committee put forward by me, on your behalf, to help build a better event, the only problem i had, was that you went out of your way to bag last years event without knowing the full details. anyway hope this makes it a better event for all.
Cheers Trev
-
If by chance there is a 4 stroke class this year I'll be starter for it.
Brent
-
went up on sunday with worms and sussed out the track ;D
its gunna be a good one (there all good) 8)
100 foot table tops canyon jump over crocodile pit
and freestyle foam pit for magoo ::)
no only joking we are making it pre 75 friendly
but still good for evo and pre 85 :P
wait till you see it 8)
maicos and hondas are banned from this event ;D
-
Buddy you're obviously scared you'll be beaten by both..
-
What, you've got worms? You need to dose yourself up!
-
whats the dosage brad
-
Why you got them too? 2 burbons...might not help but hey , couldn't hurt!
-
trev I am sure the old bikes will be happy with 4 laps, even 3 laps with 3 races were alright in 06, and the problem with jumps seems to be that they need to have backs on them so they can roll them if to big, I badley bent both sets of forks last year so it will be a problem for the titles .At tassie the jumps weren't to big but no backs on them, that was a complaint by some just cruising around.
-
or bundy
-
If you're a fighting man. There is at least one fight in every bottle!
-
allways up for a bundy and dry, and yes if its beach worms your after i can help.
Cheers Trev( ps i dont know what sort of worms russ has got and dont really want to know)
-
got the worms fixed (sick of dragging my arse along ground)
took an all wormer bikky :'(
now just gotta get rid of the fleas ;D ;D
-
Hey holeshot your sick of dragging your arse on the ground? try being 5 foot 3 tall it is an everyday thing for me!!!
-
:D nothin' wrong with being 5 foot 3 inches STW ;)
-
All in all Doc it is ok except when you fall off your 84 model motocrosser on the side of a off cambered hill and you have to start the thing!!!
But then again it is the average height in Japan!! and I do ride Japanese Bikes ;D ;D
Shane
-
hence why my favs are the pre'75s, I don't even look at any mx'er made after 1978. Well I do..lots actually! but eh, for my personal ride bikes, the lower the better :D
-
Go along with that mate have a 73 CR250 to restore (all there just needs tidy up) and looking forward to the ride, Hey is it just me or did these bikes seam bigger when we were younger?? the fact that I am short aside ;)
Shane
-
:D my oath they seemed bigger! I remember I had a sore neck from cranking my head around to look at the roost I could create at will when I got my first TS250..but yeah, it felt and seemed BIG! :o..it was flaming awesome!! (for a 15 year old who'd never had more then 15hp on tap before that is :D) pushing a guys new 465 YZ back to his ute while the ambulance took him away with a badly broken leg. I distinctly remember grabbing the bars and they were as high as my head!...it was bigger than Ben!! :D and they still are!
-
must be something in that christian name , benefits of being verticley challenged are:
Not suffering from altitude sickness.
Two nano seconds more to duck from random pigeon poo
Less distance thus velocity to fall when youve had that last poison beer
An awesome view of tall femme fatales' ;D
I bitched and bitched when the long travel bikes came out. bloody tiptoe on a rm125 i was .
Thus why i like pre 75 stuff
-
disadvantages being, can't reach up to the top shelf at Woolies, can't reach down to the fuel pump of an old Holden :D most embarrassing moment due to lack of length was proudly boasting at 17 I could ride any bike no worries ::) a near new full dresser Goldwing interstate, a cold motor prown to stalling and a nice little gutter right outside of then one of Brizvagas' leading motorcycle dealerships. I was about 6 inches too short on either side :D :o fug meeee!..big oops!..er..sorry Mr Beaumont sir ;D incidently on a sad note and getting waaaay off topic sorry but Phil Beaumonts wife died only just recently, anyone who knows Phil and his wife Iris Lee will understand what a rough time she had, what a fighter she was and how she backed Phil all the way in the huge dealerships he'd built up in the 70's/80's. Incidently the ward at the hospital where she died she was to start the following week as a nurse. She had recieved a bedside graduation for her nursing degree only 24 hours before she passed away :( ..sorry, back to the topic..Connondale ;)
-
atleast we reach one end okay :D
-
I don't know what you blokes are talking about
-
eh Magoo..someone such as yourself or Big Loz would have to remember back to about 3 or 4 years of age to relate to the issues we speak of ::) I get a phobia about standing too close to Lozza and a simple game football scared the piss outa me compared to my worst prang ever on a bike :D
-
Arr Magoo I need to speak to you old mate eye to fly about the other thread you had going about being quite up this way? remember? some more medicine headed your way next month to old mate :D :D
Sad note to hear of Phil's wife passing on, truely great people.

Memories and rainy Queensland days ... :) 8)
Conondale Yamaha AORC postponed
Rounds three and four of the 2010 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) will no longer be held next weekend (May 1st and 2nd) due to heavy rainfall in the Conondale region.
A new date for the rounds will be decided and announced as soon as possible.
The Titan Enduro (rounds five and six of the Yamaha AORC) will go ahead as scheduled on May 29th and 30th at Moruya on the New South Wales South Coast.
The Conondale event was being organised by Motorcycling Australia in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club.
Club spokesperson, Rick Madden, said the Green Park venue would have needed “at least three week’s sunshine” to dry out enough to run the event.
“It’s really unfortunate, but we’ve just had too much rain,” he said.
“The property is saturated and it also doesn’t help that a creek divides the motocross track from the bush, which means we have to mark the tracks across the creek and it’s too high, it rose eight inches just today while we were out there.”
